I was just wondering if there is any guideline to go by for laptops when choosing games. How do you compare the required and recomended specs on the box to the specs on your laptop? Thanks again for the answers.

That's a fairly general question; any laptop suited for 'gaming' can handle the current games fine. Most modern games require 512, but that's too little to play much of anything on. 1GB is the absolute minimum these days, 2GB is ideal.
Graphics card - you'll see 64MB required for most games, but that's pushing it; some games can't even run at above absolute minimum settings with that little VRAM. I detailed more on video memory up top in the guide, but don't buy anything with less than 128MB of dedicated memory.
And as for the CPU, as long as it is fairly modern you should be fine.
