Hmmm... Wow I'm an idiot... I meant to say "Alien Swarm"... If a moderator or admin reads over this and feels inclined to change the thread title to say "Alien Swarm" instead of "Alien Wars" I would greatly appreciate that.
So I was looking through some screenshots and it looked like to play with people, they needed to be on your friends list. I wanted to start this threat so people whom are planning on playing the game can post their steam account name so we can all add each other and play cooperatively.
My account name is: jasonbourne774
and the name will show up as "Deadmau5"
Please, anyone feel free to add me and I plan on playing the game soon after its release.
-
I also plan on playing this game, but not as soon as it is released. I'm going to try single player first and try to get the hang of it.
-
I'm in Turkey it's 11:00 pm and we have still 1 hour left to download it
and I'm tired
-
Definitely if I can get it downloaded. It is being delayed on it's release and I have heard rumors it is 2.5 GB download. Begging my wife to start the DL for me so I can play it when I get home from work, but not sure if I have enough brownie points saved up.

Took it for an offline whirl. Not bad, not bad.
You definitely need diversity to get through a mission, as well as people keeping on their toes. Medics have to lay down healing becons, Techs have to weld/unweld doors and hack computers, Heavy Weapons specialists have to lay down their sentry guns, and Commanders have to be laying down spare ammo.
I'm looing forward to playing it with real people. -
Got through the campaign on hard with infectedsonic... we thought it was a breeze right up until the final level, then we got stomped 5+ times. My advice for the finale is to have a medic who knows how to conserve and packs nothing but healing equip :s

Good time to bring up a few resources I have for you guys.
First no need to individually add each persons users name you can join our Official NBR Steam Gaming Group - Steam Community :: Group :: Notebook Review
Next if you do want to go the individual name route I can make a friends list like I did for BFBC2 (look at my sig) but since this is a steam only game I see no reason to go that route.
I also PMed a forum member asking to open up his VOIP server for use of this game. Waiting on his reply. -
Anyone wanting to play now, please let me know. I have a mic also so i can play with people that have mics or those that dont...

The game has built in VOIP? Is it good enough to not worry about the Teamspeak server?

Argh just tested my PS3 controller with this game and found one fundimental flaw that I hope if I ask for it, they can impliment it.
There is no controller support!
A game like this is one of the very few that I would prefer with a controller, I am not particularly great with the mouse based aiming system because I lose track of my cursor and end up having it too far away to aim in time or something.
I can get used to it but would like to see controller support as an option.
It can easily be done in one of two (or both) ways.
First Method
With controller mode "on" the mouse aiming cursor is gone and your guy simply shoots and aims in the direction you are walking, many older games are like this. It leaves you with a handicap though because you cant shoot while going backwards or sideways in another direction.
So to fix that you need to implement a "strafe" key, I was surprised I was able to bind walking just fine to my gamepad but there was no strafe key.
So method one is to add controller mode that removes the mouse aim feature/cursor and add a strafe key.
Second Method
Since so many gamepads have two analog sticks by default now the fix would simply be to remove the mouse aiming function/cursor again by enabling "controller mode" and have one analog stick control movement of your character and the other analog stick control aiming direction.
You can easily fire and use skills with the shoulder buttons since your thumbs will be busy and use the face buttons for the other tasks that are not as critical.
Method 1 + 2
Works just like Method #1 when the 2nd analog stick is left in neutral position, but if you push it in any direction it will override the "shoot in the direction your walking" with "shoot in the direction the 2nd analog stick is moved" it would be best if they did it this way so you can choose to make use of the strafe key exclusively and not tie up your 2nd thumb, or take a more advanced aproach and use both analog sticks at the same time. Or simply change between them on the fly as the situation demands.
I am going to see if there is a forum or something where I can request these features. Would anybody be willing to post with me and also asks for this to be implemented? A lobbied effort.

Did my first online game, the first game I tried failed to connect. The 2nd game was pretty laggy but playable. However there were 2 areas where the game itself just went into super slowmo/lag mode the frame rate was fine solid 60fps all the time but the game itself had issues.
-
There are parts in the game with the "Slow Mo" effect, Its not a bugI found them pretty cool
-
Yeah when you destroy certain areas or if someone has adreniline it does that.
Anyone up for playing now? Like right now? -
Nice game. One irrelevant thing though: anyone else getting an icon instead of the nice game art in Library>Games>Grid view? It annoys me (just a little, but enough to post it here as a question)

I dunno this elevator part took like 10 minutes and it was so slow you couldnt do things right like reload or use items. It seemed more like a bug than an intended effect.
I mean it took forever to beat that one part, and it was so slow that there was no challenge to it, plus I think it threw off aiming, I was lucky as a tech I had the homing gun but none of the other guys could hit anything. -
Has anyone tried Insane mode yet? It really tests your ability to work as a team, especially since those parasites become not only more powerful, but also more rampant. Personally, I feel the parasites make the game a bit unbalanced. They tend to represent the only real threat during a mission, along with the occasional rush of swarm. Also, the further you progress, the more you find that the only useful weapons end up being the Tesla cannon and Flame Launcher, as they are able to slow down the enemy without using very much ammo.
Definitely a very strategic game, but I really dislike those parasites. They just come out of no where sometimes, and the fact that it's usually dark doesn't do much to see them in advance :/
Still, I think it's a really fun game, though it's a lot more hardware-demanding than I had initially presumed. -
-
Oh, and don't forget you can enter "exec 360controller_pc" in the console to set it up for xbox 360 controller support.

The elevator slo-mo is intentional, I think. If you notice, a little sub-screen will pop up in the upper left during slow-mo parts. It also happens are couple more times, like when you fight the Shield Bug.
