People Planning on Playing Alien Swarm Today/Tonight

Oh wow first person mode.... that may work wonders on the tri-monitor setup at home must try it when I get off work.

Edit: just tried first person mode and it works wonderfully! makes the game a lot more immersive and I prefer the fps style aiming. It may not be as easy as the overhead view for seeing everything going on and doing 180 degree shooting but thats ok its more fun.

Only problem is I must find how to invert the y-axis I cant aim with it not inverted.

 

First person view is awesome.

 

Sooo many bad people fail at Alien Swarm (and probably all other games). It's a 4 player co-op yet people insist on playing it by themselves and wandering and running to their own sections of the maps. Trying to play medic is extremely frustrating, and of course every time a moron dies, it's your fault.

I get in teams where no one wants to play medic (except me) and none of them grab the ammo crate secondary, and all of them pick gadgets they NEVER use. Would be nice if they would at least pick the 20% body armor to help me out.

 

I think first person is flagged as a cheat online

I'll ask the developer if he can change that next patch unless he really does think its a form of cheating.

I still need to know how to invert the axis before I use that mode anyways.

BTW the developer is really nice and supporting the game heavily. I posted some of my 6004x1200 ultra wide res screenshots on his forum and told him about the HUD anomalies, and later that same day (today) he released a patch that auto updated on steam to fix it.

 

I don't see how it's cheating, it's just a view, everyone can use it and it makes the game better IMO.

If anything, I think first person would be a handicap because you can't see as much of the action or know where your friends are at.

 

Yeah, you almost have a sixth sense with over the head, I'll have to try the FPS mode for more immersion though

Is there any chance to get a group server going with cheats enabled so we can use first person view?

 

If we have a cheats server I have a lot of good commands.

There is one to turn on AI director like L4D2 uses so that enemies spawn randomly, also you can turn off spawning restrictions so any kind of alien can spawn at any time at any place.

 

Oooh, I'd rrrreally like that, one of my complaints is that I always know where the swarm is going to spawn from for some of the more linear levels. Having an AI director will be good for the replayability, and having any time of swarm is good too because the campaign has it set up such that it introduces more and more as you get deeper and deeper which makes the earlier levels not as challenging.

 

downloading this game now, never heard of it but sounds interesting

 

Since this game was free and I have a few friend that like to game, I've just played with buddies... all mic'd up over skype lol so it makes it fun and tactical.

 

I got my first gameplay movie up just testing ultra wide resolutions & first person mode.

Oh and you absolutely must watch in 720p or 1080p and full screen it if you want to see much since its like the widest movie you ever saw.

I don't really like how you can't see the gun in first-person, I guess I got used to that in L4D + every other FPS out there.

We should coordinate some speedrun groups... you need 3 lv25+ people with chainsaws that know what they're doing though... also some insane completion groups would be nice, I can't find one that can get past residential sector.

Is it sad that that gun is beyond a doubt my favorite in the entire game? I have some weird love of zapping oddly shaped aliens with a poor dead scientist's (poor? get it? eh? eh?) imagined weapon (I'm taking creative license here). Frick, I need sleep.

I hope they make Alien Swarm 2 soon with first person as the default view and with more maps.
