    Hello,

I have X1300 with 1gb of ram. I play source with 1280x700 low setting. How much performance boost I get from source if I change it X1400? Worth to spend extra $100 for X1400 even though I have X1300?

    Thank you

most likely, i don't have exact numbers or benchmarks but what i can say is that read this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568 for a better idea of what category each of the graphics cards are and how they rate among other graphics cards. the x1300 is a low end graphics card better than the 7300 turbocache. the x1400 is a mid range graphics card better than the 7400 turbocache. the x1600 is a performance level graphics card which is slightly better than the 7600 (not turbocache), in notebooks because the nvidia 7600 usually comes underclocked by manufacturers to adjust for greater battery life and only slightly less performance.

We have answered this question a lot. And the conclusion always is the same: The 100 dollar upgrade from X1300 to X1400 is really worth it. An X1300 scores around 1100-1300 3dmark05 points, while the X1400 has 2000-2200.
So for 100$ you get around 60% more performance!

So the upgrade is worth it! Especially if you are planning to run Vista and to be futureproof. Remember that Windows Aero needs a good videocard to run. Aero is an option, but it is very very cool I think.

Yes, it is worth it. But only if you can get it done without voiding your warranty. I'm assuming you have an Inspiron 6400/E1505, and if this is the case just call Dell and see if upgrading it would void your warranty. If it does... I say don't go for it.

I would try forcing DirectX 8.1 or DirectX 7 before you go out and spend money . . see how it runs. Google to see how to do it. DirectX 8.1 does not have as advanced of shaders as DX9, but you will get some performance increase and may be able to run on maximum. And if that doesn't let you do it, then putting it in DX7 mode certainly will - no shaders though, but CS:S looks great either way.
