Hey, I've been trying to run a few games recently and I have been a little confused as to why my laptop isn't able to run games at the higher settings. I just wanted to check if it actually is my laptop, or if there is something I'm overlooking which is reducing it's performance.
    Specs:
    Model: Asus N53S
    CPU: I7 - 2670QM 2.2 GHz
    Ram: 16 GB
    Graphics Card: Nvidia GT540M 2GB

I've been trying to run games such as Batman:AC, Skyrim etc.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

What settings at Skyrim are you aiming for? I think medium is best your laptop can do.

The game will run on high, but it just doesn't feel right with movement and response of controls.
    Thanks for your help

download fraps and check your framerate. If it isnt above 30fps then you are running it too high.

Well, a lot of games will "run" at high settings on weaker GPUs (of which yours is one) but that doesn't mean they will run well. Lower your settings and try again. Also make sure that the game is actually using the discreet GPU (540M) in the first place. You might be yet another victim of NVIDIA Optimus where it's actually running on the intergrated graphics chip. Go into your driver control panel and make sure you have a profile set for Skyrim to use the 540.

Why are you busting on a 540gt...lol. That is what I have. He is right though. It is a weaker card that will struggle with the latest and greatest games at high settings. Don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful gpu but like everything else, it is showing it's age.

Turn it down a notch and you will be alright.
