First i want to say hi to everyone, i'm new here. :D

I've been reading some topics in the forum and i think the m8600gt 512 is not the best card, but good enough to play any current and modern games at decent resolutions, including crysis and those insane games.

Ok my point is .. i want to buy an asus lamborghini vx2 here
and when i read your opinions about the card, my face was deformed. I think the components of the laptop are very good balanced except for the performance of the m8600gt 512mb.
    I don't want a 17 inch laptop, because i'm looking for mobility.
And i think the Asus Lamborghini its pretty good ... but the video card.
Can the laptop run those games ?
Can you give me some advices ? Please

The reason people feel the 8600m GT 512MB is limited is because it does not have the throughput to really utilize all 512MB of video memory.

The real issue (at least back in the day, a month ago) was between GDDR2 and GDDR3 memory. I don't know if they ever made an 8600m GT 512MB GDDR3 card, but if they did, that would be a pretty sweet card to get. From what I understand, though, the 512MB version was GDDR2.

(GDDR# is the speed of the video memory)

That computer looks pretty sweet to me, although general consensus would tell you that it is overpriced (you can get a similarly specced Dell 1520 or Dell Vostrofor under 2000). I suppose the blue-ray drive is what bumps up the price.

If you want to buy the best 15.4" gaming notebook, you'll have to buy a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz. :D

That's what I did, and this thing rocks my gaming sox.

Oh sweet irony. (The MBP thing is a semi-joke, by the way).

Asus G1s-B1 > Macbook Pro due to 8600m GT's clocks.

I suppose. Still, 3850 in 3DMark06 at 1440 by 900 is nothing to scoff at.

And there is nothing like playing the last campaign scenarios of Supreme Commander on a whittle 5 pound laptop for a couple hours (1.7 hours, to be exact) at 22 FPS while on BATTERY.

    Bioshock, too.

Did I mention the LED backlight?

Hehe, I shouldn't do this. I'm a Windows user in Mac Clothing. OSX is pretty nice, it's primary use is impressing the ladies, though.

The Asus V1s is a cheaper alternative to the vx2, the case and fans being the main difference.

With the c90s now having a 8600m GT with GDDR3 it is a good alternative to the higher priced g1s and MBP. The biggest weakness of the c90 still being its battery life.

    :D Thank you guys,

If i chose the lamborghini, is because i can afford it, no problem with the money.
Now if the performance of the 8600 gt 512mb gddr2 really sux, i found a g1s-b1 256 with gddr3 .. i know that the quantity of mb is not the most important, but sometimes influences.

I just want to know if the difference between 8600gt 512mb GDDR2 and 8600gt 256mb GDDR3 is notable... if not .. i'm going for the lamborghini because i love it for his design and elegancy damn!!

But i'm looking for good gaming experience also .. so i'm in that dilema..

The DDR3 in the G1s plays a MUCH MORE critical role than the 256mb vs the 512mb.. I have the G1s, and I can say for sure that you can't and won't be disappointed with its gaming capabilities.

Omg ... that is a very important information.
Then the performance of the 8600gt 512mb ddr2 in the lamborghini will sux in important games like Crysis?

The difference between this 2 cards will be so huge until the point of having to change from lamborghini to G1S-B1 because the video-performance?

I want to be sure before buying the Lamborghini VX2-A2B.... my main problem is the "#%$&#$%"# video card.

edit: a noob question .. can i add more ram to the laptop, lamborghini or g1s, if i want ? and if i do before the warranty expires, i loose it ?

The GDDR3 will be faster by like 20-40% or something, so I've heard. (correct me if I'm wrong)

Games usually don't use up all 512 MB of VRAM anyways, so there wont really be a difference between the two, unless you're playing at really high resolutions.

It is my understanding that the difference between GDDR2 and GDDR3 on this card is really insignificant. The bottleneck is the 128-bit bus, not the speed of the VRAM or core. You may see a 5-10% difference -IF you overclock it, but that difference will only be noticeable at lower resolutions (like 1024x x..), and at 1280x800 I don't think there's that much difference.

That said if you're spending that much on a laptop, it had damn well better be GDDR3, even if it only gives you a 2% FPS boost.

My conclusion: The GDDR3 version is better, but it's nothing to get your panties in a bunch about.

(Please tell me if I'm wrong, it is 3:30am here)
