I dont know what type of 1 second lag you guys are talking about, I have no such issue with my system (in sig). Although In bioshock and world in conflict if I look at the water it does appear to have a 1 second lag thing going on but the rest of the game is perfectly fine

Here's an example

but what is the actual purpose of superfetch though? will it harm the computer if its disabled?
-
damn that is pretty bad, lucky I dont have this problem.
I read about a fix for this problem which apparently worked (not the thread optimization one). I have it somewhere in my bookmarks, am trying to find it right now will post it when I do, shouldnt take long -
thanks buddy
im watching this thread @ work like a hawk lol
-
Found it, let me know how it works, credit goes to the original poster, just do the rivatuner part dont do the drivers if you dont want to since you guys have the 1 second lag thing with every driver
-
ill try this solution out when i get home (im using 163.67 drivers.. shouldnt matter much)
jessi3k3 can u try this and tell me if it works? thanks -
what does 1 and 2 do (i wont be able to test until i get home)
-
it could possible fix your problem lol
-
where can i download nvtweaker? i cant find it anywhere
-
For Vista download RivaTuner here
http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner
nvtweaker is for XP. I'll give this a shot right now in a second. -
wtf... nvtweaker is a really old program and won't run with the new Forceware drivers?!!?
-
Odin, it still stutters.
-
mine does too. LOL
-
downloaded Rivatuner and tried that as well... doesn't fix it
-
Lol, I didn't even know anyone was talking to me! The fix worked "temporarily" for me. I did see an increase in FPS and a decrease in the stuttering but it still exists for me. The above that I posted is not a "fix." I am however currently performing the only fix that I know of, bought Windows XP.
Orochimaru, you however are the only person I've found using XP that has the stuttering problem. I would suggest you do a clean install, install the correct drivers (for all of your hardware not just specific ones.)
-or- (if you're lazy like me)
Deframent your disk, download a program called CCleaner and clean up all of the crap, check your system for any malicious programs.
Other than that you have me completely stumpted. Like I said everyone with this problem is using Vista except you. Most people have reported switching to Xp fixed their problem (which is what I'm relying on). I really suggest you do a clean install (reformat your harddrive) and download the correct drivers. There is a thread in this forum that shows Dell 1420, 1520, 1720 and Vostro users how to install XP on their system correctly. I'll give you the link to forum soon. i need to take a test now.
EDIT: Here's the link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=150033&highlight=XP+on+1420

remeber even not having your sound card drivers up to date can cause stuttering in games.
do a clean install of vista
install drivers from websites not the OEM ones since they can be outdated, for chipset drivers use the inf update utility
install the performance and reliability update for vista
install the hotfixes for nvidia cards for vista
if all fails, clean install of xp -
guess noone knows
thanks for the help though. -
Strange that you are having this trouble in XP - I found games to be silky smooth in XP. -
yeah im going to update my drivers - ill let you guys know of the results
-
Vista is the worst for games right now. Really. I tried it on my dedicated gaming desktop PC, and reverted back to XP.
I tried it on my wife's laptop, and reverted back to XP.
Plain and simple, Vista is not ready for prime time at least for gaming with current or prior games. Games released in another year will probably be another story. -
i give up. thanks everyone for your help

Something to think about... Could be a hardware issue and nothing you do will work?
I'm just saying that because I had an Inspiron 1520 for 2 days before returning it and it's just a feeling but I thought the gaming performance was incredible, more than I expected. With my Vostro, I'm not as impressed but I can't tell if it actually is that way, or I just had more time with the Vostro. -
I was having the same problem. Just got my Vostro 1500 a few days ago. First game loaded up was Madden NFL. A periodic lag or skip would occur during game play. Turning off "Threaded Optimization" worked for me running on WinXP. Thanks for the advice lowlymarine.
Periodic 1 second graphic lag - any game I play.. why?
