    'ello -

WoW runs fine for the most part (130+ fps) but every so often (like a few seconds) I'll get a brief pause while in combat then it resumes normally. Why is this?

Lag? when in combat there is likely more demand from your video card. what setting are you running in wow

Could this be caused by an insuffeciant amount of RAM? are you running vista?

What drivers are you running? I have found that any of the newer drivers actually Kill WoW Performance in comparison with the STOCK drivers that come with your dell.

I get 40-150fps with stock drivers (full settings and it runs super super smooth) .. with 163.44 I get 25-50....with lag hitches like you said

163.44 might be good for bioshock, but for some reason the stock drivers are very very good at running WoW.

Put the stock back on. They are WAY better for WoW than the 163.44. I get much higher and smoother framerates with them.

WoW is horrible with 1GB of RAM. Going to 2GB will fix that.

bmorlak - which stock drivers are you referring to (driver #)

ocellaris - I played on another laptop with 512 mb ram and an ATI RADEON 9000 and I didnt have these pausing issues. 1024 x 768 was the resolution

I'm now running in 1280x800 W with 1 gb and a clean install of xp

I am at work so I can't say... After trying the 163.44 drivers I loaded the ones that come on the Dell driver disk (You should have one with your laptop). Load the ones from there and they work a lot better for WoW.

Did Wow requirements change when the expansion came out?

I haven't played in about a year, but sometimes I would play on my 1 Ghz, 768 MB ram, Geforce 3 ti 200, and it ran fine on medium settings...no lag problems, etc....

The burning crusade definately has higher detail/more polygons per "virtual" square meter I would say. The zones definately push your PC harder than the original areas.
