I played it on PC and 360 and the 360 seriously dominated in terms of visuals. No idea why because the PC version was set to max. Maybe the AA wasn't high enough ??

maybe the 40" screen helped with the experience factor. did you try playing with your laptop hooked up to the big screen?

Not a great comparison shot because totally different scenes and lighting. your 360 shot is in bright daylight and close up, while the PC one is dark and far away.

I would assume the PC to have equal or better graphics but that a laptop would not be able to run them.

Okay those shots are better, but I still think the 360 version looks better. The textures are more detailed. Same goes with the cars.
Maybe that's why the Console versions cost $10 more.

The PC version should definitely have a better view of things and better graphics, with AA turned up and so on.

    Nice vid , Ricky.

Its probably because of the post-processing effects, they give everything this ugly ,yellow taint.I hate that stuff-they used it in DiRT ,and now obviously in GRID.

I remember reading somewhere you need to turn off HDR on the PC version to make it look like the 360 version.

Yea, you might want to turn post processing off to get a similar look to the clearly photo shopped x360. By turning it off and cranking up the settings you could get some sweet results (better than the pics below)

    Edit the file
    for DEMO:
    <Windir>:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\My documents\Codemasters\GRID Demo\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml

    or for FULL GAME:
    <Windir>:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\My documents\Codemasters\GRID\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml

and change the line which contains:

    postprocess enabled="true" blur="true"

    to

    postprocess enabled="false" blur="false"

You can turn off blur from game interface also, but HDR is only disabled through this config file.

The PC version could also have things enabled that you think makes it look worse that they took out of 360 to make it easiwer to run, usually things like more detailed lighting or motion blur would be in more dramatic effect on PC when you have all settings max, you may find turning some stuff off or making it lower may give you the visual effect you want. MAX setting is not always the best looking setting.

Heck for the longest (and probably still) I loved how everybody assumed EXTREME post processing was the for UT3, but it had nothing to do with the detail or graphics but rather the style the effects took. So everybody put it on that setting because it sounded like the highest, but many probably would like it set to something more realistic.

Edit: posted right after you. Looks like you pretty much confirmed what I was just about to speculate.

Yep, postprocessing washes out the colours on the pc quite a lot, some might like it others might not.

I reckon you can keep postprocessing on and increase digitalvibrance in nvidia control panel if you really want to keep the processing and the vivid look.

    EDIT:

Just tried it, didnt like the looks at all

I like Vrooms Vrooms but I'm unsure about a PC racing game. I'd rather get one for Wii - the Mario Kart controller is surprisingly comfortable. Maybe I'll download the demo?

If you steer off course, accelerate SLOWLY and keep steering to minimum till you get back on the road.

True true I was wrong with photoshopped pic. Actually turned off HDR before but never liked it. Will see if I can change my mind about that, I too don´t like the yellow look of the game using HDR.

Off topic question... can you fine-tune your cars (engines, suspension, drivetrain, vinyls, tints, etc) in Grid like you can in NFS games?

Unfortunately, it doesn't run as smoothly as you'd think. With my 8600 GDDR3 OC'd and all settings to max(2xMSAA), I only get about 35 FPS Avg. during races. Turning off the AA helps, though.

Um GRID runs pretty well on a 8600M GT DDR2, what are you guys smoking? Turning down AA is the best thing.

When I played the demo at default game settings at 1280x800 I got around 40-45 frames. More than enough to play a driving game. After I tweaked some settings I then got 50-55.

Obviously, you can't max out but you can play the game just fine. I hear the retail game has better framerates.

The best effect is achieved by keeping HDR ON, and increasing digital vibrance to something that suits you best.

Nope, just switch between predefined sponsor logos, designs and decals for each company.

Grid is about racing, not customization.

    Pretty damn good

    Strange.

My ddr2 at stock clocks, with every setting either ON / ULTRA except shadows and trees (both MEDIUM), 2XMSAA @ 1280 x 800, runs like a dream. No slow feel, perfectly smooth and fast.

I don't measure my fps as then I start googling about what others people are getting, why am I not getting that...etc etc. Im very happy with the performance, game runs beautifully and I'm happy. To explain, its as smooth as CSS on a ddr2 card.

I also agree with the above poster, the retail gives you better performance both fps wise and control wise. The latest whql drivers also help, as does the latest patch.
