The custom built one would be better, simply because of the gpu, however it'd be held back by the CPU badly.

If you're trying to decide what to buy you could fill out the faq and we could try to help you.

neil; if you could please refrain from doing that in the future.

I own both those rigs already the Desktp is 4 years old and laptop is about 2 months old I would assume the AMD is better. The AMD is OC'ed to the speed of a pentium 4 speed it jsut doesnt show properley

The only superior bit that will make a (pretty significant) difference with the desktop is its non-integrated graphics card. However, the desktop won't excel with Half Life 2 as it is limited by the amount of RAM it has and its CPU (even if it is OC'd).

Avoid the integrated graphics from Intel. THey are horribly disabled.

Also, you might have good luck seeing as the 9600 series cards were recommended for HL2 back when they launched. However adding more ram might help you out there.

The desktop will play it bettwe, but I'm pretty sure the laptop will play it too, if you really wanted to.
