Dosbox is for DOS games only. You don't need it for Max Payne.

Explore the Max Payne CD, find the setup.exe and run it manually, don't count on the autorun. The game should install without problem.
There is a known problem with the sound though so you need to apply a patch to fix it. Instructions and a download link for the sound patch can be found here:

Edit: I forgot to mention that the game must be installed in C:\MaxPayne otherwise the patch might not work.

and then after you finish it, get the kung fu mod, an invulnerability cheat, and commence the jump kicking, wall running goodness.

Max Payne was great, but I quit when they started throwing in that crap where you had to walk the line of blood. Whoever thought that level up should be shot.

Those levels were incredibly confusing. It would've been okay had they been incredibly easy to beat (so they could simply convey the theme). but it ended up being kind of like gaming while blindfolded. In other words, it was incredibly frustrating.

I loved Max Payne. So glad 3 is coming out, that stupid level with the blood line dream thing. I spent a while on that too, its not hard, I'm just inpatient and try to run the whole thing. lol.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Actually that part was pretty interesting thats the one where you hear the baby cry and it gets louder the closer you get?

I thought that level made the game more unique then anything else out there especially for its time.
