Does anyone actually do this? My dad lol just got a 52 inch Samsung LCD TV, so it would be cool to test out some gaming on it. I believe the screen is is 1920x1080? i dont remember the exact numbers and 1:50k contrast and 100 hertz. Not sure if i got all the numbers correctly but anyway, how will the quality be for gaming on such a big LCD? I mean the thing is 52 inch and uses the same res as a 17 inch notebook LOL.
I am just wondering if anyone tested it and if its was cool and more fun than playing on ur normal screen? Personally i dont see the benefit since PC and console gaming is not the same thing. I sounds strange to play on such a huge screen with a keyboard and mouse and sitting so far away from the screen.
P.S my dad lives in Norway and me in Thailand so i cant try it yet![]()

i think it should work as long as u got all the cables and stuff. I wish i had a huge screen like that
i have a 360 controller so it wouldn't be weird at all, i'd just put the Notebook to one side behind a couch where i can't see it or sumthin and imagine that i have a ps3 and xbox 360 in 1 invisible console
-
Should be fine depending on the game. Not sure how older games at lower resolutions would react to the TV. I personally prefer to do all my gaming on the primary laptop monitor to avoid the slightest risk of lag, even when there should not be any.

You will have some problems reading small text, since point 12 font does not look very sharp on a screen with such a low pixel density.
But otherwise, it's great. Just don't sit too close to it. -
Great so can we expect a, can my laptop play at 1920x1080 thread from you?
-
Havent you seen a ps3 or xbox 360 play at 1080p on a big tv? its the same thing...
-
I play all the time on my 40" tv. Games like devil may cry 4 are the best to play. I just plug in my controller and im good to go. I think you definately need a controller if your going to use a large format tv.
I tried WOW and other FPS type games and they are better on your normal computer screen. i usually sit really far away from my tv, im gona give it another shot where i sit much closer maybe it will work out better.
I think gears of war might be nice an a larger tv. Although its an FPS a controller works better on gow compared to other FPS. -
I did it once with my old crappy m1330. It was ok just that it was too weak to play COD4 at that resolution. I should try CoD4 with my gateway it should be awesome. Remember to show all those console fanboys how much better the games look on PC. LOL

My 32" LCD TV is my computer monitor at home, and I use it at 1360X768, as it is not FullHD. Very satisfying, for all games, movies, websurfing, etc. I sometimes even surf or play from my couch !
(I use a wireless mouse and keyboard). If your computer is able to handle the 1080p resolutions for gaming I don't see why not to use it.
Sincerely, after I played COD4 on that screen with the speakers full open and started to race with my rFactor league... there was no getting back to the tiny 15" screen.
I took this picture from my couch. Only thing differente now is that I have a MOMO force feedback wheel attached to the desk.

I love that big, black and hard screen u got there. -
Your right, but one issue is potentially the small text while playing PC games. Console games have larger text as the gamers are sitting for instance 10 feet from the screen on the couch. Whereas playing PC games, your typically sitting a few feet from the screen so their games typically have smaller text but you can still easily see it.
My brother had hooked up his desktop to our 52" 1080P HDTV via HDMI. It worked fine but it was a bit uncomfortable to play with the keyboard and mouse on a couch. Perhaps if I had a table to rest them both on or played with a console controller instead....
His monitor is a 17" 1280x1024 and he appreciated the extra space the widescreen HDTV offered. We found the desktop too small to work with at 1080P so we displayed it at 720P and it still looked good. -
1280x1024 is not 1080p

The problem is that with a large monitor, your either going to be sitting too close, and cause eye strain, which can give you headaches, redeye etc.. Or your sitting too far, and have to squint to read text, which can also cause eye strain. Personally I just stepped back about 12 feet and can still read this page fine on my setup, but mabe some others don't have as good eye sight. The key is just to set it up so that your in the range of about 6-8 feet, and everything will look great, perfectly readable for anyone, and games will be amazing!
Here's a pic I took a few weeks ago of my own set up. It's actually relatively inexpensive compared to buying an alienware desktop with no screen. To buy that desk, TV, tv stand, and desktop PC all new, it should be well under $3500. -

I hooked up my pc to a 40inch lcd tv at 1360x768 resolution. Played Crysis on high settings from my couch, looks absolutely amazing. Even though its 720p it's still very sharp picture and that's with a vga cable. A good thing about the lower resolution (compared to monitors) is that it's very easy to max out the visual settings in games with good fps but retain the look of an lcd monitor running at native resolution. Text and subtitles are not a problem by the way.

From a distance the screen don´t look blurred when playing wihtout native resolution I put the flatout 2 at 1360x768 on my dad´s 42" full hd and it looked very nice.

I have the same 52" Samsung LCD. I use it as my primary monitor and regularly game at 1600x900. I find the best distance for desktop viewing at 1920x1080 is about 5 to 6 feet away; yes the screen is big at that distance, but the text is clearly readable, and isn't the point of buying a big TV to take up more of your field of vision?
The screen has good built-in resolution scaling but you will not enjoy playing competitive multiplayer FPS games on it... the input lag is noticeable, even when the TV is in Gaming Mode (which bypasses almost all signal processing by the TV for the sake of reducing output lag.) Gaming Mode helps a lot though, and if you're playing a sweet single player game you can turn on the 100hz feature and your TV actually interpolates frames that your video card doesn't render, which in practice looks like about a 20% boost in frames per second. The trade off is a big increase in input lag. To compensate somewhat I use a corded Razer mouse, which negates the TV lag to about the level a normal LCD connected to a computer using a wireless mouse. -
I game on my MBP connected through DVI in my home theater- 120" at just 720p (1280 x 720) and it looks awesome, just as good as on the 15" screen at 1440 x 900.

FPS games do not play well on massive screens. Accuracy goes down.
RTS games on the other hand are awesome. Playing Warhammer was great on a 32". -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
just thought i should point it out. -
I play Cod4/Left for Dead alot on my 40" 1080p Screen, looks so amazing still can't get over it.
Be sure to buy USB extenders for the mouse and keyboard, and you're good to go -
There's zero noticable delay or ghosting on mine. It's got the same 8ms delay as most monitors, and I'm actually alot quicker using this monitor than when I used to use a 19" LCD. I play competitively in FPS tournys and everything I used to with smaller LCD's, it's actually quicker and easier to land shots with this.
Make sure your monitor isn't running in 1080i mode. 1080i has a significant delay on the mouse, and I can see how that would be very difficult to play a game with. 1080P mode is instant, zero delay, no problems, then again I suppose this goes all down to what HDTV your using. -
