Im from the UK and I am going to buy an Asus UL80Vt-A1 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/661011-REG/ASUS_UL80VT_A1_UL80Vt_A1_Notebook_Computer.html while in New York next week.![]()
Also does anyone know if I will have problems playing UK games on it?
Also, I am aware I will have to change the region code to play Region 2 UK DVDs on it but does anyone know of any other compatibility issues I may have in the UK with a US laptop?
Thanks!

You need to change the locale to UK English and location to UK, some games do check those things when installing.
You can use VLC media player to play DVDs with any region code.
I don't suppose there's anything else.
P.S. Graphics cards on that laptop are pretty weak, you might want to reconsider if you wanna play games with high graphics settings. -
other then the obvious needing a power convertor for the charger

As far as I know all i will need for the power adapter is a US - UK plug adapter.
Thank you for your help guys -
I dont think Game DVDs are region protected on PC, but i may be wrong.

also dont forget in the avent of a hardware failure rma returns will most probably have to be payed by you for the shipping and insurance each way.

I bought a msi 1720 from the US, I kept the US regional settings so they matched the keyboard and didnt have any problems with games!
Yeah the warranty can be a pain, but so is not being able to get a specific laptop in your country
I also wanted a UL80vt but still not available in UK. Decided to get a Sony CW in the end -
I've got no problems... playing UK games on my singapore computers for years....

I'm U.S. and just bought Chaos League: Sudden Death from eBay...
The game was never released in North America, and the box I bought was actually all in Dutch, but the game plays fine on my North American Dell without messing with any settings...
I've heard there are (were) some differences in the English keyboard layout between North America and Great Britain...
And as has been mentioned, the AC part of your power supply (the brick and cord) may need some help, but I imagine a 'travel' kit would be easily purchased...
Optical drives (BluRay and DVD) are region encoded, but you can change the region up to five times before it's locked...and there are dozens of ways around this anyway... -
I brought my laptop from the US and as far as gaming goes it's no different. Only two things I had to do; first was cut off the US plug and attach a UK one, second was to change the keyboard layout (remember that " and @ are swapped and there is no £).

I've played a few UK games on my US PCs. Sacred/Sacred UW, Sacred 2/Blood & Ice expansion, and a couple of other RPGs I picked up as imports.
I've never run into problems with this, nor have I ever had to change my region. As far as online gaming is concerned, most look at your IP to see where you are connecting from, not at region settings. -
Last year when I went to India, I purchased a European copy of GTA4 there since it was so cheap. Despite the back of the box stating it must be activated in India before playing, I installed it and activated it here in the U.S perfectly fine. Everything works perfectly, multiplayer, singleplayer, etc.

There should be no problems. I bought a few games in the UK such as Crysis Warhead to play on my US bought laptop and worked fine. Apart from differences in packaging and age rating differences I think they are identical

Only DVD, CD and Blue ray movies have regional coding. Game DVDs & CDs do not generally have these. However keyboard layouts MIGHT differ with different keys at different positions. But from my experience it's the same whenever.
