can u play games that are meant for Windows 2000 or XP on Vista??

(such as: SWAT 4, GTA:Vice City, & Need For Speed: Most Wanted)?

also, would those games be able to play smoothly on low specs on this machine:
    AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core TL-58 1.9GHz
    2GB DDR2
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M

I guess I just always assumed that a newer OS would somehow be programmed differently, in terms of making it incomatible with past games

Some games do indeed have problems with Vista. Just google whatever game your interested in, if it's Vista-incompatible you'll find out quite quickly.

thanks a lot. that really helps!

1 more question, would the games that I listed be able to run smoothly at low, medium, or high in this machine:
    AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core TL-58 1.9GHz
    2GB DDR2
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M

Those should all run at high settings I believe. They're old games.
