because it is so far outside your reality? What is real to you may be be real for others, but than again what is real?

No i dont think its absurd at all, i think everything can be or happen at any time.

Everything is possible, just because a person cant understand it does not make it impossible.

You should totally learn to play a game with your feet at the same time.

Worst case, you could get a job travelling with a circus and make money. HT would be proud.

That said, I think HT's point shows just how much the "system" doesn't work. His only advice was to get a job in order to get money and contribute to society, in case he might one day not have money. From the sounds of things, it seems pretty clear that MSI isn't running out of money anytime soon, and he won't have to go crawling back to anybody. 18 months of naval service sounds like he's contributed enough to society (if we're going by the old metrics of contribution). So all that's left is trying to get him to work because it seems unfair that some people have to and others don't. And it is unfair, very. But some people choosing to work (rather than say, branching off into entrepreneurship, at the least) is just continuing the system, which MSI seems to quite clearly have rejected for now.

And I applaud you sir, I just wish you'd spend some time critically thinking, seeing as you've got the time for it, and contribute (wait for how I use this word) something to the rest of not having to work withing a system. That is to say, think, and then try to change the system. Because, at the end of the day, don't you want all people to have as much free time as you, to work 5-10 hours a week, and then enjoy their life and do what they want, instead of work 8 times more, have no time to enjoy said life, and because of no time to enjoy or think, continue buying things, supporting the people they work for (directly or indirectly), and forcing other people into the same cycle?

Hi there hippie. Here is why that won't work. Only working 5-10 hours a week? What happens to hospitals, fire departments, and nuclear power plants? Oh, we just hire a whole bunch more people so everyone just works 5-10 hours a week? Here is why that won't work. Many jobs required to keep this world spinning (including keeping the electrical grid working so we can even turn on our machines) require YEARS of dedicated studying and work.

As far as the whole 'cycle', it's called the modern world. And, despite what many think, we have it even EASIER than our ancestors did. A few hundred years ago, a 40 hour work week would have been considered retirement. Ever try farming? that's a 14 hour a day job if you're lucky TODAY.

Look, MSI wants to spend his life being a parasite of welfare and playing video games, fine Mazel Tov and enjoy. I learned long ago not to worry about the actions of others. But, everything has an end and one day, MSI will get there. here's hoping he picks up a few skills to carry him along.

The whole point is to create a future for yourself. If you were born independently wealthy fine. You're a lucky SoB. If you weren't, then make a future for yourself by earning your living. Live modestly, save your money, and with the right investments you could live decently after 15-20 years of work if you wanted to, and retire in your 40's. And then you've actually paid into the system that "will take care of you", instead of not contributing anything towards it. That system is in place to support those who have contributed, not those that feel they can take from it without giving anything towards it. And especially if you're perfectly healthy and young person, there's no reason NOT to work. I think 40 hour work week sucks, because it's really over a 50 hour work week when you consider the commute and time taken to prep for it every day. I'd love to work four 8 hour days, but that's not how the world works.

Some people just have dumb luck and need the system to survive. For those I can understand and appreciate their struggle. But for the rest, try to make a life for yourself.

If we all lived off the system then who would contribute to the system? The reason folks like MSILOVER can do what they do is because there are industrious, hardworking individuals supporting their way of life. If everyone "rejects the system", we're all SOL.

I'm working on play through 2 of Skyrim. Going 100% mage this time, definitely causes a change in tactics. And I haven't touched dragonborn yet so I figure I'll work that in after I slap Alduin around again..

Edit: I should also mention I'm using legendary difficulty as well. I definitely get one-shotted quite a bit unless I'm careful, though part of that is I'm dumping nearly all of my level ups into majicka and using all majicka enhancing or majicka regen enhancing equipment.

i dont really care all that much about other people, their lives, their thoughts and opinions. Am not living the best life i could etc but i just dont care as i said am a very lazy human being.

When it comes to money and that stuff am doin fine, simply because of my GFs business and my family.

Should i in a perfect world make more of an effort to contribute? Yes, but again am to lazy and i just dont really care. Maybe someday i will if am in a real hole but the chances of that happening to me is slim to none.

Maybe someday il get inspiration to do something more meanings full, i dont know... right now i just want a steak and a beer and than beat that hard boss on darksiders.

i didnt buy skyrim because its way to long for me to complete it, i got to much else waiting for me like Unreal 1 from 1998 :D

i kinda liked AC1, it was new and fresh :=)

yup thats how they make their money, i do however plan on goin 3 times a week (lets see how long that lasts)

I found a great way to make a good pre-workout drink that gets me going. Mix 1-2 table spoons instant coffee with just a little bit of pepsi in a cup. It will turn into something muddy bubeling slimy mixture . Drink it and ur good to go for 45 minutes and after that u will probably take the meanest dump in years.

Honestly, I kind of sympathize. I've had a bunch of different jobs. Most of them paid really bad, what paid well I thought amounted to cheating people out of their money. None of it made much sense. What did, was extra service that I was specifically told did not earn the company money, etc. And meanwhile, I know people who made a career with the right education, who then got absorbed into the right company, etc., who earn ridiculous amounts of money -- that they spend on building up capital in case their future takes off.

Point is, if you actually have something worth living for, and have enough to get by. Then even if you're intelligent and willing to work very hard, it might not seem worth it to actually put in the effort needed to get a better wage.

If this still sounds like Hippie central, I'll give you an example. And I swear to you, I'm not making this up. And I don't live in Cambodia in the jungle, to put it like that.

One of my bosses, a while ago, seriously considered starting to hire "interns" in the office, to do the "menial" things that the rest of us might not necessarily need to use our qualifications to do. Fill up forms, run reports, pack incoming, pack outcoming, push trolleys, etc. His plan then was to lower our number of hours, and have these interns run around doing work for free. And so save this office a lotofmoney(tm).

And I say, well, you know, that sounds like a great idea, chief. But do you think you're going to get these secondary school guys to work here for free? (I saved the entire "is it legal" question up in the air for later, it was just so fascinating to watch). And the guy says, completely seriously, that "working in itself is a great reward!". And keeps going on about how it would look good on the CV, and how it would turn out as a good way for them to get a good reference from his under-mid-level bosship in question, and so on.

Now, you have to understand that this guy had less education than I had at the time. His grades weren't very good. It's just that he had gradually moved up in the company to the mid-level leadership, because he was a weak yes-man. He did the things his superiors wanted, and could summon extreme enthusiasm about any amount of completely idiotic ideas. This guy couldn't sort and check the reports for one day in the office, in a week. Get the math on that one, and imagine if he ever actually did his job. He couldn't write a formal letter to anyone to save his life. I'm not making that up either - I watched him trying to pin letters to the screen for a day in Word, and failing. He had to take it home with him that day, and have someone help him.

That guy earned five times my salary per hour. And he clocked in basically three times as many hours on the job.

So not only didn't he do work that justified the money he got. But he also spent an ungodly amount of hours on the job, that he should have been spending with his family, or driving his car into a rock-wall, or something.

So riddle me this - if you don't have a prospect of actually getting a job that pays reasonably well, while not occupying all your time as well.. would you happily choose a pointless job just to waste time? I mean, it's a good question nowadays, with the way the job-market works, for those who aren't 40+, highly educated, and in a stable job-situation.

Very valid points nipsen, and sorry to hear about that job situation. I would definitely look elsewhere or actually report the boss to HR. Otherwise you're only putting yourself in a miserable situation. And it's one thing if you're struggling to find a decent job and are in and out of work, and you have family to support you. It's an entirely another thing to just say "screw it" and not work at all. I'm sure it's discouraging. The thing is for those that are 40+, highly educated, and in a stable job-situation, went through those same or similar struggles. When I graduated college, the job market was pretty bleak as well. It took me two years of crap jobs, low to no pay, putting up with egotistical a-holes, and to be honest it only made me work harder to find a better job. But in any case, you've at least put in the time to try to improve yourself, make money to try to advance.

I've seen the same situation with lots of higher ups that spend 60-70 hours per week at the office, yet they have young kids at home, and I don't see their added value in the office all those extra hours, except yucking it up with their work buddies.
