I have a thread going http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=172604 in the buying section and I'm trying to compare values based on the responses I've received.
Taken by themselves, please rank these graphics cards from best to worst in terms of general gaming use at decent resolutions:
256MB Nvidia 6800 Go Graphics Card
128 MB ATI Radeon Mobility X700
ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 Graphics 256 MB
Geforce GO 7300, 128mb
NVidia quadro nvs 140m 128mb
I have no idea how to rank these. The x1400 in newer than an X700 but is also a lower class card, right? The 6800 is older than the X series but has more ram and was the top card of its day. Is the older top better than the newer lower card?
I'm so confused!
Please tell me your opinions. Also, how suited is the Quadro for actual gaming use?
-
From worst to best
ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150- Cant even start games that use Unreal engine 3
Geforce GO 7300, 128mb- This one can but only with 6FPS
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 Graphics 256 MB- For a casual gamer nothing to be a proud of but can run pretty much everythin with decent framerates as long as settings are low enough(newest games!!)
128 MB ATI Radeon Mobility X700 old but still better than x1400 in terms of gaming maybe 30%
NVidia quadro nvs 140m 128mb Same performance as x700 but Shader model 3 and Dx 9.0c support
256MB Nvidia 6800 Go Graphics Card This veteran will butt**** all of the above + it plays anything that you throw at it with med settings (Stalker bioshock) and good res... -
wolfraider, agreed.
-
Thanks wolfraider. So now pairing them as they go with the procs and ram, what would you take between the 6800 with a Pentium M 1.73 and 1gb vs the X700 with a Pentium M 2.0 and 2gb vs the Quadro with Core Duo 2ghz and 1gb ram.
Do you think the extra speed and ram would push the X700 over the 6800 with a slower proc, or would you still take the 6800 and just up the ram? -
Also the owner of the Quadro says its equivalent to an 8600GS. BS or no?
-
BS, 8400gS it is equivelant of.
8600GS is better than 6800 go
And if you plan to use vista and be mobile buy the one with quadro 140m
6800go will get hot!!!
x700 is not an option especially with those specs unless you are ok with anything older than FARCRY and DOOM 3 -
no ram will not help x700 in anything that card is outdated and far weaker than 6800
-
So Quadro it is then. If I install regular geforce drivers it will show up as an 8400GS right? And run games as if it were a Geforce?
Because incompatibilities are the last thing I need.
Cheers mate. Appreciate all your help. -
Also, keep in mind its a 6800 with 256mb vs the Quadro with 128mb.
The Quadro would still be better even with half the ram? -
8400GS performs "much" worse than 6800 but it can be fitted in 13" laptops
Plus what is the idea of a laptop when you buy one with go 6800 in 2007.
It can only run newest games at medium settings, you can cook an egg on it and you will not get anything better than 1 hour of battery life.
So conclusion if you want gaming buy a Desktop its at least 5 times better and costs the same.
If you are a casual gamer than get a 140m it will run most popular games(sims, wow, BF2...) at very decent settings + you are going to be much more mobile with it. -
Alright, appreciate the help. Fwiw, I cant have a desktop due to space considerations and even a big laptop is better than a tower + monitor.
But again, you've been very helpful. I've added to your rep. -
can you not get any of those cards...if you were to get one my choice would be the 6800 tho.
Please compare these graphics cards
