Alright so i have an HP pavillion dv6000 with AMD turion 64 x2 tl-56 1GB ram 1.8ghz. (Nvidia go 6150 running on windows xp media center). First let me state that whenever I check the system stats (windows/pause-break) it only shows 795mhz. It used to do that, but when I would check it a second time it would read the full 1.8 ghz... Recently it ONLY shows 795mhz... is this just a cosmetic type issue or is it really only running on 795 mhz?
Anyway my real question is this: I purchased BF2 knowing i may not be able to play it. I had mixed reviews from the internet some saying they could play on low settings, others saying didnt work. I set EVERYTHING on low (even sound quality..lol) I also set it on 800x600. Originally I used to be able to pick a map, spawn on it and run for about 3 seconds before it would freeze. Now I load the map, and 50% of the time it will get me to the "choose weapons/solider" screen and completely freeze, other times it will just show a frozen screenshot of the map and freeze.
Any ideas? I read a review with the same go6150 and same memory, adn the guy said he was able to play it on 1024 on low settings? I tried 1024 on all low settings too but same results- just freezes.
One thing to note: i used the pull down tab in the video settings to hit the general "low" setting which changes all the video settings for you. It left the viewing distance at 75 feet (which I changed to 50 feet) and also left one setting at medium (which i manually changed to low). When i did these things it said that "shaders will need to be optimized with these settings" but I didnt see an advanced tab or anything where i could change shader detail or quality.
I am just really sad I cannot play this game... I also have HL2 and counterstrike source which I can barely stand to play because even on the lowest settings I get mid 20's FPS (not much fun).
Could it possibly be my processor speed not registering? Is there a problem with my processor not running at full speed? What about overclocking? (worthwhile...? too risky??)
I also know that the go 6150 uses shared system memory, but with 1gb I thought it could draw off that?
I heard you can change somewhere in bios the dedicated memory for the graphics (maybe its on 32mb or something??) i heard you can change it to 32/64/128. I would like to try 128 but cannot find in bios where to adjust it??? Its the pheonix bios if that matters.
sorry for all the questions, but i need any help I can get!
Thanks
Mike
P.S. - Steam (hl2 and cs source) also gave me a pop up that said my video drivers are out of date. I thought ok easy fix...went to the nvidia site and none of the drivers I found for the go6150 would work... Is there a driver update that might help me out? This lappy was purchased almost exactly a year ago.

I have a nvs 110M...which I know is different, but I can play BF2 ok...I set everything low...
Have you stopped your antivirus? You ought to pop up to 2 Gig...on my desktop when I went from 1 gig to 2 gig (XP) the difference was huge! I can only imagine if you are using shared graphics memory with your 6150.
I don't know about about overclocking, but if you can do it on your GPU why not try it? -
#1 Nvidia go 6150 is integrated and kinda blows
#2 AMD mobile cpus underclock themselves in order to save battery
Good luck -
1. You can't adjust dedicated memory.
2. Adjusting shared memory won't do much.
3. Update your drivers.
4. Hope. -
Ya i set it on 128 once I updated my bios (so i could make the change). well...m ade sure everything was set on low- and I got to play for about 4 seconds! as soon as there is ANY confrontation (shooting/see other vehicles/people on the screen) it freezes... once it froze for a second and let me play another 5 seconds but usually it just TOTALLY locks the lappy and I have to power down.
I guess im just going to have to bring my built desktop down to play my games on... this sucks I just wish I had paid a little more attention when this laptop was given to me and gotten one with a real video card and not this integrated bs!!!
And lastly about the drivers...none on nvidias site (that work anyway). Went to HP's site and the only video drivers are actually 6 months older than my current ones.
*sad face* -
i think the 163.xx drivers work? or try the ones from laptopvideo2go.com?
-
OK thanks im downloading it now to see if that helps.
*edit* no go on the install...said no available version to fit my hardware? Even though the go 6150 is in the list...
Sorry im such a noob at this I just want to make things work for once!!
Thanks guys for the ongoing help! -

Ok so I tried installing the file with the modded INF, exactly following the step by step process on the site. It rebooted and went to a black screen... I had to restart and roll it back to "previous known working settings" and all was well...or so i thought. I noticed that everything was running SUPER slow at startup but attributed most of it to getting things reset... Now it seems it bogs a little bit...
The other change i noticed..is that when I open the control panel it appears to be an older version. The one I had before (original) was a more bubbly, vibrantly colored one with more options [ex. the powermizer option before let me choose different settings for battery power or AC power, this one just lets me turn powermizer on or off!]
The next problem I have... I cannot even OPEN steam games now (half life two and counter strike: source) I go to load them and it just closes the game itself... I tried system restore but still the same problems.
Steam told me my video card was out of date (nothing new there) this time I Tried the link again, and saw the 163.xx and it said it was released today... I thought great, from the nvidia site it shoudl work no problem- WRONG it made me go to HP's site to get it (and of course the newest driver on there is over a year old??)
Anybody have ANY ideas for me? -
go into safe mode...delete the current driver for the vid card, then reboot. Then, upone reboot, install the newest driver from laptopvideo2go that is compatible with your card.

I am currently running driver 7.15.10.9815 on my 6150 and I can run HL2 in 1024x768 in med settings (what the game defaulted at). I am not sure what my fps is but it runs smoothly. I had HP update also tell me to run the older driver but then Vista tells me to run the newer driver, which is what I am running now. I used to get the "old driver" box from steam prior to this driver also. One thing you can check is go into your NVIDIA control panel and look to see what the performance settings are at. In Vista (I imagine XP is similar) you go into the control panel and then choose "NVIDIA control panel". Then choose "3d settings" then choose "adjust image settings with preview". Set it to "use my preference emphasizing performance" and see what happens. I set it to use quality settings and Call Of Duty 1 ran really choppy. Its worth a shot...
Please help!!! nvidia go 6150 + BF2...any ideas? also not showing proper core speed?
