As many of you know, BF3 had a recent update (R9) which requires 4 people to start a server. This makes it very hard for small clans like ours to start games. EA is actively working on the issue. Today they released the R10 update which undid a small number of the R9 changes, but not the most important one. Since they know there is a problem, the more feedback they get, the faster they will fix it.
Please send them an email or cut&paste and ad your name to the bottom.
Many thanks

SUBJECT:
BF3 R9 patch Minimum player changes
Dear EA/Dice Team,
I am writing to request that you fix the minimum players for privately managed servers. As you know, the recent R9 update has made it so ranked servers require at minimum 4 people to start. I realize this has been done to prevent stat padding, but unfortunately it is killing clan play and will ultimately lead to reduced profits for EA/Dice as well.
Currently our clan has about 78 members. We are all regular contributors at Notebookreview.com forums. Before the R9 update any one of us could join our server and practice flying or even just surf the internet (since we had the idle timeout set very high). Eventually someone else would join and a 1 on 1 game would commence. Within a few minutes we could have 8 people in the server and about half an hour later our 32 person server would have 16-32 people it. It was a lot of fun doing this. We would talk about the game on the notebookreview.com forums. You can see some of our smack talk in the links below. It has been a blast. Everyday we added more members to the clan and more members joined the server to play.
Unfortunately all this came crashing to an end with the R9 update. Now getting the server started is very challenging. 4 members must coordinate times just to get it going. Now we are much more likely to just enter some other random server and play alone. This is bad for EA/Dice in many ways. It is obvious from the Battlelog website interface that EA/Dice are trying to create a facebook type community environment that will enable friends to play together. This is good for sales since people who play together will get more friends to play, which will lead to more game sales, and the more people play the more download content EA/Dice will sell. Many of the members at notebookreview.com who bought the game did so just because they heard other forum members talk about it. Unfortunately the R9 update is actually counteracting EA/Dice’s goals of generating revenue via a friend network/community.
Since the R9 update we have not been able to get any ad hoc games going in our server. People would rather play in another server with strangers than wait in a loading screen alone. In the long term, EA/Dice should enable an unranked game to commence immediately upon a single person entering the server. This would let people practice while they wait for their friends to join. In the short term the R9 minimum player changes should be undone. Although there are certainly a few people out there padding stats and unlocking weapons, it is not fair to penalize all the good customers who want to play with their friends.
We sincerely hope you will make this matter a high priority. As it stands BF3 has lost a lot of popularity on our forum since the R9 change. Since game sales are tied to popularity, it is in your best interests to see this fixed ASAP. We look forward to seeing the fix soon, and if we are lucky, maybe we will get to shoot at each other on the same server one day.
Thank you

Frankly I have lost all faith in DICE after the last client patch and don't expect them to fix a thing.
-
why would you want to play with only 4 people anyway. Its better if they raise the minimum to atleast 6 or 8
-
Usually at any given time there are 4-6 NBR players playing BF3. It used to be if we saw someone on the server we would join in, and a few minutes later we would have a game going with 2-8 people. 10 minutes after that we might have 16+. Right before the new patch we had 32 people playing at one time (not all NBR but almost half were, which is perfect). But in order to get the whole thing started started someone needs to join to practice, then someone else joins, and it snowballs into a battle.
Now with the new patch, we need 4 people to join before anyone can do anything. No more practicing, no more 1 on 1. It means 3 people have to sit there and do nothing while they wait for the 4th person, and no one is willing to do nothing, it is boring. I've been online many times and seen enough people to start the server but everyone is already in a game, it is better to play with strangers than it is to nothing hoping someone else will join (which they won't since it takes 4 people, not 2).
Basically the new patch makes it impossible for small clans like ours to run a server. Either they will fix it, or we are going to have a hard time getting anymore NBR clan games going.
Please help NBR Battlefield 3 players by emailing EA/Dice (cut and paste)
