Hello,
Im kinda new to this thing but I wanted to seek help regarding ATI drivers.
I have a Sony VAIO VPCEB27FA E Series : VAIO Notebook : Sony Asia Pacific. IT has a ATI Radeon 5650 Mobility with 1 gb dedicated memory. I want to upgrade my OEM drivers to original ATI drivers. Sony updates the drivers after a long time as you all might know and this is quite frustrating. The last time Sony updated was back in September 2010. I downloaded the drivers from ati but an error came up that said Contact your OEM...
I downloaded the offline package of drivers with the latest version with the direct link from these forums AMD Mobility Catalyst Drivers 11.5 but when i install the drivers after uninstalling the original drivers the blue death screen pops up that says something about time out and then the laptop reboots autmatically. I have installed the OEM drivers again. Would you guys please help me with installing original ATI drivers. I read in post around this forum that I would have to install drivers over the original ones but when i try to do so even from the driver package from ATI, I cant update the OEM driver. It says that I already have the latest version of the drivers. I was able to update the driver maually from the Device Manager but the driver didnt work after reboot. In device manager the status of the driver shows that the driver might be corrupted or not digitally signed and doesnt work. Can anybody please guide me the correct method of installing ATI drivers?
Im using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with SP1.
Thank You for your support.

Any time I upgrade drivers I never uninstall the old ones and it has always worked for me. Unfortunatrlly, I don't have much experience on this topic and I'm afraid I won't be of much help to you. However, updating drivers might be completely unecessary. I have a Radeon 6630M and I'm using 2010-12 drivers although Dell suport has 2011-03 drivers for my machine. I had upgraded them and was deeply disappointed, because Fallout 3 weren't working properly and in GTA IV vehicles couldn't get visibly damaged (I mean chassis deformation). When I rolled back to old drivers, both Fallout 3 and GTA IV started working great.
Even though upgrading drivers may give you some (if any) boost to game performance, you should upgrade them once you have a problem with graphics and you hope that it would be resolved in newer drivers.
Please help: Going from OEM drivers to original ATI drivers
