I know of Lenovo y580/480 (speculation) and Gigabyte P2542G.

Preferably with 15 inch screens and around 5 pounds of weight, and less than $1,000.

Thanks, but damn. All those are over $1000 with decent upgrades.

Actually, I'm looking to spend around $900 max, I want Ivy Bridge and GDDR5 650m or a 660m.

Most people can get it for less than $80 (or free for that matter from schools or an old pc) from other sources. If you have no sources, just run Windows 8 beta until you have a spare $100

    - Yo dawg you should really check the 3DS though it's not a console for plugging in your TV, it weighs under 10oz and it has these awesome 2 screens so you can game while you game [IMG]

    - Wait, what ? I don't even

    ^lol.

I guess the closest thing would be the Sager that troyguitar posted. If I could get it with windows for $950 max that would be great.

Also, how good is Sager? I've never bought from boutique retailers.

*Also, Sager looks heavy. How much does it weigh?

There are regular coupons on DV6's - typically somewhere in the range of $300-400 or 25-33% off, meaning you should be able to get the Ivy Bridge DV6t QE with 650M and 1080p screen for around $900 if you get in on a good coupon deal.

I've heard HP gimps the video cards in their laptops (restricts/limits their clocks).

Are they doing it to the DDR5 650M?

    sager
    HP DV6
    samsung series 5 / 7 (and q470???)
    lenovo y480 / y580
    toshiba p850 (i think?)
    asus n56
    msi ge60

Dun know about the weight or price for these cant really keep track

Theres at least one model from each brand with a 650m or will soon have a 650m. Might also want to look into 7750m too as it provides similar performance unless ure on team green.

They've historically done so as a preventative to overheating, and the only one I know of for sure is the Envy 14-1000, which was a first-gen machine, i.e. they didn't have a very broad sample to test the unit's heat dissipation. The DV6 series is on its 7th generation, I believe, and the 650m is available in much smaller notebooks, so heat shouldn't be an issue and thus I wouldn't expect a gimped card.

In response to the last post, I believe it's supposed to be the 7770m that really competes with the GDDR5 650m, while the 7750m is supposed to be more along the lines of the DDR3 version. With this year's lineups, Nvidia and AMD both came out with some really nice mid-range new-generation parts, performance and thermal profile should be pretty similar, so if you're not brand-loyal to Nvidia, you could also consider machines offering 77x0m and 78x0m parts.

Supposed leaks about the new MacBook Pros on 9to5mac suggest that they'll come with 650M GTs, are they any good?

If it is the ddr5 version (which i doubt if they are going for a even thinner profile) and a complete new look then I will look no further. With Apple screen quality is gauranteed....but so is heat and a jaw dropping price tag :(

Checking the HP DV6, it has 2 options:

    NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5 memory [HDMI, VGA]

    NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 1GB GDDR5 memory [HDMI, VGA]

Is the 2 GB significantly better/worth it?

    Agree on all counts.

However, what are the major competitors offering? DDR3 or GDDR5? If the standard is the latter, Apple is unlikely to fall behind. I am as guilty as the next person for berating Apple's GPU offerings but the fact seems to be that they pretty much deliver what you'll find it any other high end non-gaming laptop, just at $200 more lmao.

I thought the 2GB version was DDR3, and the 1GB one was GDDR5?

If you play gta 4 or asny gpu memory intensive games get the 2gb, but if you run games that don't require much gpu memoory get the 1gb. If I was you I would try to get the 2gb one if the laptop costs a lot and highest res screen.

The GT 650M does not have the ability to use 2gb video memory effectively. It neither has the power or bandwidth for that amount. Get the 1gb version.

Please note that the DESKTOP 680 only came out with 2gb memory originally.
