First off I have not played either. People say Two Worlds is just like Oblivion but others say its not. I want to get one but do not know which, ive read two bad reviews of two worlds so im not sure which to get anymore. Please disregard that Two Worlds has limited multiplayer. Please only consider the single player.

Oblivion freekin rocks!!! Winner hands down IMO. Nice avatar btw.
-
oblivion, but it is a bit of a one sided vote, i've never played 2 worlds
-
Well me either.
A big part of oblivion for me was all the user made mods. Theres no way two world will have that. -
Well if you've never played either then definitely Oblivion.
Two Worlds is going to be good for those who have beaten/played Oblivion and are looking for more of the same type. -
Two Worlds?
How have I not heard of this?
IT HAS MULTIPLAYER?!
Why was I not informed of this? Heads will roll.
If you ask me, the graphics look quite a bit better than Oblivion. If you watch the videos on it's web-page, the world seems much more alive.
Don't get me wrong, I love Oblivion, and I have it for both the PC and the 360. This seriously intrigues me though. Thank you for posting this. -

For me they are about even. Probably the biggest thing that will push me in either direction is if the fighting in Two Worlds is better than oblivion, which is honestly pretty boring. My brother has oblivion, but ive never played it before, just watched him a couple of times.
-
i've never played two worlds, but even if it was 10 times better, oblivion would still be well worth playing.
-
-
Would anyone mind bringing me out of my Oblivion aversion? I have it for the XBOX 360 and started playing it almost a year ago but got all bogged down after a couple weeks when I became obsessed with maxing out skill increases each level (so that 3 stats would go up 5) which sort of ruined the fun. I never even completed the first main quest, but I did get a horse and buy a house in the capital.
Just some words of encouragement or generalized method of playing would be appreciated. -
I 've played both, and for me oblivion is still the king...

two worlds is not out yet to my knowledge?
-
release dates are
May 9, 2007 (PC version in Germany)
July 20, 2007 (PC and Xbox 360 in UK)
August 14, 2007 (PC and Xbox 360 in US) -
From what I have been able to find out Two Worlds has some strange upgrade mechanics. There is technically no limit to how powerful your weapons/armor can be upgraded, and you can just find another sword of the same type to upgrade your current sword into a more powerful one. Weird, IMO.
-
Well the main thing I like that i've heard about Two Worlds is the leveling system. In this world there is areas you can't go unless you are powerful enough , and the developers stressed this point compared to Oblivion. IMHO I completely agree with them cause I got bored and eventually stopped playing Oblivion (after 60-70 hours) because I couldn't walk around the starting areas without fighting insane monsters. This also killed other games for me as well (specifically final fantasy 8 and dungeon siege II) so when I heard this I was happy.

Gothic 3, those two suck each other, and not in nice way.

I've spent i think the last 18 hours looking up info on Two worlds and reading about it, since i saw this post about 18 hours ago... It looks good at some points but then looks like it has some bad production qualities sometimes too, but i think that that is no better or worse than oblivion which the 3rd person of it provides the same effect or worse, both look to be very very very good games and much needed for the 360 and I will probably end up purchasing two worlds to compliment my oblivion, the game will provide an almost fable-looking setting i think but with more of an oblivion feel. Combat is supposed to be similar to an MMO with auto attacking and then selecting skills which is fine by me. The crafting/stacking/alchemy system in the game looks like it will provide tons and tons of depth.
The magic in the game is what drew me in, along with how sexy the robes look, sorry for the wall of text just got excited as i started typing -
I have imported Two Worlds (the international german version) and it is quite a good game. Think more like Gothic 2 or 3 (better, much better then 3 and not as good as 2) with Diablo 2 style skill system (but no classes). It's quite a pretty game and runs well (now that's 1.4 patch is out) on my system with all the graphics turned up. Note, I have 2.4 Dual Core Conroe OC'd to 3Ghz, 8800GTS and 3GB RAM so your mileage may vary.
Combat is decent, tank mage is the way to go, but magic has issues due to the fact you can only use 3 spells at one time. In general, the game is better, IMO, then vanilla Oblivion, but lets not kid ourselves, who the hell plays vanilla Oblivion?
You take Oblivion, throw in Knights of the Nine mini expansion, throw in SI expansion, put in some major mods like OOO, Monster Mod, etc... Add in a better leveling system (KCAS), put in all the texture improvements (land, NPC, etc...), put in Deadly Combat (yeah, you can lop off somebody's arm and perform combo maneuvers ala Gothic), throw in a new magic system (thx Mighty Magics), and it's an entirely different game. Of course, if you have gotten Xbox 360, then its a different question.
I just came back to Oblivion (bought it, thought it was boring and stopped playing), spent a few hours hunting down and installing mods, and it's a fun game. Honestly, I would buy both. -

Apparently my brother is buying it for the 360 (i only have a pc) so i get to try before i buy! Titan Quest will tide my over nicely until i decide which one to buy.

Let this post live! Just wondering if anyone else has anymore two worlds info, so i thought i'd bring it back from death
-
Ha ha! I guess I will help you keep it alive and "bump" it...
I guess this might sound dumb, but are the "Language and Sexual Themes" in Oblivion very bad or overt? I have 9 younger siblings and some of them like to watch me play computer games. I would rather not corrupt them, and I don't particularly care for certain "sexual themes" in games either. Well, I guess that I should also ask how gory the game is as well. The "family standards" appear to allow certain levels of violence and "scary images" (the little ones can watch The Lord of the Rings for the most part...). But I would not want them to see a total gorefest either. I have played Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and been extraordinarily pleased with it. It seems to be very well done and appropriate for the younger siblings to watch. I was just hoping that Oblivion wouldn’t let me down.
I guess that is where the other part of this thread comes into play. If Oblivion is not appropriate I was planning on looking for another game (with beautiful graphics preferably) with which I could replace it. Two Worlds has begun to intrigue me very much… I guess I will just have to wait and see… Does anyone have any other suggestions as to alternatives to Oblivion?
P.S. Just give me an honest opinion on the intensity of Oblivion. I think some of you might want to simply say "Jeez! Play your games away from your siblings and get a spine!", but that is not a very productive or helpful response. I also care about the quality and appropriateness of the games I play, and I would rather choose a game having both. -
Oblivion has an option in the settings to turn down the blood and I don't think its that sexual, I haven't found the part where it might be... but it probably has to do with a quest somewhere along the lines, or the fact if your a female you can run around w/o your clothes on
-
-
Which in my opinion is completely and utterly retarded, what about games where your a guy w/o clothes on? Metal Gear 2? Yea, no sexual themes there... (Edit: I just checked and its only Animated Blood Animated Violence)
-
Thank you very much! That was very helpful. I had expected something about like that. I absolutely love Morrowind and I was rather surprised when I saw Oblivion was rated "M." I was not sure if Bethesda just made a similar game and ESRB tightened their ratings or the game had really gotten worse.
ESRB descriptors do a decent job, but they cannot truly relay the intensity of a game with great precision. I mean, Oblivion was rated M for "Language and sexual themes," whereas GTA San Andreas was rated M for "Strong Language and Strong Sexual Content." That is an indication of a difference, but to me I would think (and hope) that they are worlds apart in actual content and its frequency.
Woo hoo! I guess I really have no qualms getting it now. From everything I heard it is an amazing game. And since I have (and am) enjoying its predecessor so much I can only imagine what Oblivion will actually be like. I am used to ugly games and low FPS. I thought Morrowind was absolutley beautiful (for the most part) and it ran well. But with my new system I will be able to play a gorgeous game (albeit on lower settings, possibly medium?) with a good FPS*!
*As in, more than 7 or 12, which is what I am currently getting in a few other newer games... -
-
However I would wait until sept because the GOTY edition is coming out for 50 bucks retail which is what the current game is right now, and with that you get Shimmering Isle, Knights o the nine, and all the extras, like mount armor and that one cool tower, that were released for the 360 (Which you are given when you get Knights of the Nine) just puttin that out there
-
Yeah, I actually was going to mention that I had noticed the game was still $50 (although it did not surprise me). It always seems like the crappy games drop in price rather rapidly while the good ones stay high for a long time ($20 for Starcraft and its expansion?). I was wondering if Oblivion would drop a little in the coming months, and now I know that although it might not drop in actual price, I will get additional content. Yay!
-
Yeap, in the end it saves you like $30-$40 i think so its a good value

oblivion orginally released with a T, but they changed it later, im not sure exactly why. But that makes oblivion barely an M rating.
-
-
The ONLY nudity was with a mod.
All other clotheslessness had modest underwear.
The ONLY sexual themes were in one town there was a rumor of this woman that occasionally slept around (Bravil?). I investigated it myself, and it only alludes to it- people sleep in the game fully clothed, not touching, on top of the bedcovers.
The blood is NOT gory, character models do not register realistic injury. Blood is adjustable, and on full it doesn't look like much at all.
The most objectionable part of oblivion would be language or some creepy nightmare settings in the alternate plane of Oblivion. Or the fact that there is an Assassin's guild (dark brotherhood) where you can lie in wait planning how exactly you're about to kill someone. But...
The M rating is undeserved and overstated. -
I blame Oblivion for ruining my WHOLE Christmas vacation last year!!!
T_T
Yes... Oblivion is that good. I play the Xbox 360 version BTW.
I'm planning on getting Two Worlds next week since I got a new desktop. XD Any other feedback? I'm pleased to know it has a Diablo II style skill system. Hopefully the stats system will be the same. Oblivion's skill, and especially the stat system, is insanely time consuming. But it's damn f*cking immersive. It's like, you wanna jump right into the TV. XD The Lands of Cyrodill is just so damn beautiful. I wanna try living there for a day.
Oh, sorry if it was off-topic. But... you know... it's Oblivion. Say goodbye to your social life. O_O -
Well, I wouldnt pick Oblivion, since Oblivion was possibly the most boring repetitive RPG ever, I mean, every Ayleid ruin is the same and theres no variation to the game, your choices do nothing and you can supposedly "do anything" but theres no point because your choice don't effect anything, unlike say KOTOR.
dont know much about Two Worlds, but it looks better, how 'bout neither? -
That post was not very productive, you can say that your choice in any game means nothing because it doesn't effect anything at all because the game, it will still end and you will still be sitting in front of the TV or computer... But the fact of the matter is he wants one of the two games since they're mainly the only two similar games on the market right now and I would like to point out any game is "repetitive" and I feel kinda childish getting defensive over a game but that was a very very subjective POV
EDIT: xerxes... I feel that what i posted earlier was pretty harsh, I'm sorry if I assaulted you over the internet, I apologize. -
I've been doing research on Two Worlds like mad and it looks like its only flaws are in the graphics category which look a bit unpolished and also a few bugs (which were fixed in four HUGE (400mb+ patches) will be shipped with UK/US versions).
Honestly I looked at probably 200 screens and the graphics didn't look half that bad (not as good compared to Oblivion [especially with the natural environments mod] ). But that was hardly a bother to me as I browsed through 3rd party site forums and translated a few German reviews and they were absolutely raving about the gameplay mechanics, battle system, leveling system, and very Diablo-like item drops with sets and rares included.
Im now officially pumped for August 14th -
The graphics are very good..Same level like oblivion's or maybe even higher..
But the controls and the gameplay made me uninstall it..
