I recently purchased an XPS M1530.

    2.2 GHZ/4 meg/800 FSB
    8600 GT 256 GDDR3
    160 gig 7200 RPM
    3 gigs of DDR2
    Vista home premium

    I just ran 3dmark06 and got 2170.

    2170.

What the hell is going on?

I used default settings in 3dmark06.

power save mode? Make sure you are plugged in and in "performance" mode.
Drivers? Are you using the default ones or did you update?
    DirectX updates?
    Vista updates/hotfixes?
Additional programs running? (Dell is notorious, not as bad as toshiba, but still...)

Make sure you are running in 1280x1024 as a comparison, if you aren't find an external monitor to get a score to properly compare.

It was set to power saver, but it was plugged in, wouldn't this be overridden because I was plugged in?

    DirectX up to date
All vista updates via windows update

no programs in the background aside from the fingerprint scanner software and quickset keys.

My drivers are the most updated from laptopvideo2.go

Power Saver isn't overridden unless you select it to do so.

Yeah, power saver automatically downclocks the GPU and it won't change even if you need the extra performance unless you are on balanced or high performance.

169.04 is known as the "holy grail" of all custom drivers. Everything is known to work (OCing, PowerMizer and SmartDimm). And they were made for Crysis, but I recently ipgraded to 171.16 and it's been working fine, except my game 3D settings won't save...but other than that everything is good.

Even if u say its on default setting... i'm still interested to know the resolution that the test run on.

I find some of the people "default" resolution to be quite different from "standard" resolution.

Standard Resolution is 1280x1024. Default resolution will either be that or 1280x800 depending on the maximum resolution of the monitor.

Hmm... search around and found that m1530 actually has only 1280x800 of max resolution. Been suspect the test to be run on 1680x1050 but seems like its not the case.

So.. yeah make sure you're on AC and check your power plan settings at right of your task bar is set to high performance mode.

I doubt driver could cause this.

That score is ironic with the issue with my GDDR3 8600m GT. I'm not sure if the issue persists with other 8600m GT GDDR3's, but in my Asus C90S, some drivers cause 1/2 the actual performance the card is capable of putting out. Not sure exactly why this is, but sometimes manufacturers to very specific things to their cards, SO. I found that the latest driver that works with my card to be 167.58.

ziggo, I used to have a c90 with the GDDR3 8600GT. It was a known issue with the c90's that most drivers would halve the performance of the card.
