I've searched the forums everywhere I can, and I've found benchmarks, and I get the theories behind it all, but I must say I still have a question:

    nVidia GeForce 128MB 8400M GS at DDR3

    vs.

    nVidia GeForce 256MB 9300M G at DDR2

Assume both processors are running with the same Core 2 Duo T9300 Penryn CPU.

What would be the difference, if any? Is DDR3 that much of an advantage? Or is the 256 MB dedicated more important?

(if it helps people out I do not play FPS or any First-Person based games as a casual gamer. Mostly top-town RTS with some 3D RTS games)

EDIT: 'Comparison' should be in the title. Friggen typos.

On paper they are the exact same so i'd go with the GDDR3 card because of the higher memory bandwidth, although performance gains from it would be little if any:\

GDDR3 is better than DDR2 and more important than more memory.

GDDR3 means higher memory clocks and nothing else (performance wise). Under circumstances where you require a small boost in memory bandwidth then you would see improved performance over ddr2 but in most cases, and particularly with low-end cards, you'll rarely see much of an increase.. IMHO.

Both would be good for most RTS. I'd go with the 9300G because it's more energy efficent( good since this laptop you're looking at is probably thin and light), and textures would look and load better.

Thanks for all the help! Trying to decide between the Dell XPS 1330 and a few similar models from ASUS and others.

    Much appreciated!

I'm guessing/learning, that 3dmark counts in the memo-bandwidth too...so...thank you prooving this further Nir.
