Hi everybody!
I have an Alienware M17x with GTX 260M SLI. I have just found out that nVidia has offer a 3D Vision solution for people who do not have 120MHz screen called 3D Vision Discover and I think it enable us who do not own a new Asus to have 3D experience on our laptops.
I tried to install 3D Vision driver from nVidia website but I couldn't because of incompatible hardware.
The "incompatible hardware" error is ridiculous since we all know that the new Asus which has 3D Vision feature is embed with a GTX 260M.
So it's obviously nVidias's attempt to prevent people who do not own a new Asus to benefit from their technology (maybe there is some sort of contract between nVidia and Asus)
It means there is maybe a trick to bypass the nVidia check and get the 3D Vision driver to work on other laptops rather than Asus.
So how deep do you guys dig into this? Is there a solution for me to get 3D Vision on my Alienware?
Thank you!

I guess the easiest way would be to find someone with that asus laptop, have him install a program that tracks changes to windows registry, install the driver then send you the installed files and whatever it wrote to the registry. You then copy those files into appropriate locations and import the registry settings.
You're probably right about nvidia preventing it to work since their cards refuse to work as physx when it detects that an ATI card is present in the system - so I've heard. -
If you do get it to work be aware that you will be limited to 30 fps...

Yeah I know it
And I got 3D Vision Discover to work on my M17x. Just use the 190.38 driver and everything works well. I'm waiting for my 3D glasses. It's delivered this weekend -
Is there a workaround to get this to work on a 7900GS? I've installed LaptopVideo2Go 195.62 but when I try to run 3D Vision it just says "Your graphic card does not support 3D Vision."
The iZ3D anaglyph driver works perfectly well so clearly this is not a ligitimate hardware limitation. -
it doesn't... only 8000 or 9000 series ++ support 3D vision...
-
How are you ?
I'm coming here because I'm in the same situation. I have an M17x, 2x 260 GTX M SLI, and i'm trying since 2 months to install latests GPU drivers and 3D Vision drivers...
All I want is to play with anaglyph, I already have the glasses and a suitable game...
When I check "Enable 3D Stereoscopic", it shows "This laptop's panel is not qualified for 3D Stereoscopic". The thing is on many forum, people say that I HAVE to check this box then I will be able to choose the output (Stereo or Anaglyph...). But I can't.
How did you do SillyHoney ??
Thx ! -
can someone give a link for a vista 32 bit driver? im having trouble finding one. nvidia download section is still down. TIA!
btw i have 9600m gt. -
OKAAAAAAY
its your lucky day guys
First of all i am very very interested in 3D and i have a good experience in all Laptop-3D related stuff
First you have to know what types of 3D software we've got:
1- Tridef software
Here you can find two videos done by me on my Asus:
Overlord: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLoSkrYEQv4
Crysis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SngF_ZWUGv4
My thoughts: Tridef is a great software, it really has a good compatibility
I tried it only with Blue/Red glasses because as you know for true 3D you need a 120Hz monitor + you have to buy the software + NOT sure it will work
2- iZ3D: Downloaded it, didnt like it, feels old.
3- Next we have the Nvidia 3D vision packages:
a- 3D vision discover: Free, blue/red only, work on any lappy, VERY GOOD AND UP_TO_DATE compatibility
As you know by now, YOU CANT INSTALL THE DRIVERS
But....there IS a work around,.....MODED DRIVERS!!
The drivers version which worked with me: 190.38 (im still looking for links..)
b- For true 3D (full colors) you need the nvidia package which they are selling
Supposedly it doesnt work with Laptops.....But
There is this guy who have a 3D blog, he claims he got it working on his lappy, if i remeber correctly he has an SLi GTX260m
Go to his blog http://3dvision-blog.com/
Contact him, I did, and he is very nice he will tell you whatever you want to know
But even for the true 3D you need the moded driver.
For me i only tried the 3D vision discover, and i tell you now....YOU MUST HAVE A POWERFUL GPU
I have the 9800mGS, and for games to be playable you have to play at lowest settings to be playable.
Thats it for now, hope i helped.... -
just downloaded a modified driver from laptopvideo2go. (196.21). installed it on my acer 6935g and the 3d driver (also 196.21). im having a "this laptop is not compatible w/ 3d" or something like that. is there a workaround? i have 9600m gt.
-
okay, i just learned from 3d vision blog that 195.39 and above drivers wont work with laptops. now downloading 190.38.

I've installed the Nvidia 3D Vision driver and it works fine:/ i have pretty much the same lappy and GPU as you...
But my screeen doens't allow 3D, so i have to plug my laptop into my Optoma HD65 Projector via HDMI to get my games in 3D, using the old anaglyph red/cyan glasses, works great! good for a simple solution for 3D, instead of having to buy that nvidia kit, i wouldn't mind getting that kit though -
my screen is the same, but i plug mine into my Optoma HD65 projector and it works fine. -
why it doesn't work on laptop screens?
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Well, so does 3D Vision also support 88M SLI?
-
i don't think so... u need 9000 series card or above for 3D Vision...
-
3D Vision and 3D Vision Discover are totally different. Discover uses the red & cyan glasses and is not limited to 30 FPS on a regular 60Hz screen, however it has to render the image twice so it puts the strain on the GPU, like my 9800M GS which couldn't handle some of the more demanding games. 3D Vision uses shutter technology to show decent 3D imagery, again rendering the image twice so it's only good on high end cards.
I had the same error and you just have to keep trying different driver combos, I've since sold my laptop so I couldn't tell you. -
Hi there!
I am using an ASUS g72gx, and i want to try out 3D Vision Discover. After hours of searching the web, i have managed to find "3D Vision 190.38"! But i didn't manage to find the 190.38 Drivers for notebooks, für my GTX 260M. I can find the ones for desktops all over the web, but not the notebook-drivers... Can anyone help me out? -
u can find all the drivers here laptopvideo2go.com
support for laptop displays was removed after 190.38.
190.38 works great on my g51vx-x1a at 60 fps but because of the red and cyan glasses you lose a big chunk of color range(everything tends to look darker and without color).
the depth is amazing.
this a good review of 3d vision discover : Hardware: NVIDIA 3D Vision Discover -
Thanks a lot, i will try it out with 190.38
-
Sorry, Edit-Function didn't work
I tried to install the driver, but it doesn't work... The Driver-Installer tells me that he didn't find any compatible hardware... But this can't be, since it's an GTX 260M! I just don't get it...
EDIT:
Complete uninstall of all drivers, Driversweeper, CCleaner, and so on... Then trying to install 190.38 -> no matching hardware found... It makes me mad... and sad... way! -
you're probably not using the modded inf
so there's no other way to get 3d vision discover on newer drivers? i artifact while playing newer games with the old drivers, specifically the dox modded 185.85 drivers. i don't like iz3d because theres too much ghosting compared to nvidia. -
possibly necro, oh well.
I too am trying to enable it on my m17x, it works on a crappy crt with a monitor plugged in, and there's a thread about making a dummy adapter that will all it on the lapptop, so there must be a way. I'm using iZ3d now.
If you get bad ghosting, try adjusting the mode to "Optimized Anaglyph", works much better with the wraparounds I bought (red/cyan) and compared to the discover test images (on my crt) there was much less ghosting.
Possibility of having 3D Vision Discover on general gaming laptops?
