So I will be purchasing either an HP DV6Tqe, MSI GE60, or Lenovo Y580, and I want the model with the 1920x1080 display. I use 1920x1080 for everyday tasks like browsing, so I can have more space on my screen. However, when I play games, I much prefer using 1366x768 since everything appears a little larger (on the 15.6" screen of course, on 22"+ monitors I use 1080p for gaming).

If the laptop has a 1080p screen, can I set the in game resolution for all my games to 1366x768 and still expect the game to look decent since the native resolution is not 768p?

I personally think it looks decent at 900p but blurry at 768p. But others might think differently.

On my laptop I play Witcher2 on high settings but at 768p.My graphics is to weak for better resolution. This game looks beeter on high at 768p than low settings at 900p.BF3 I can ran at 900p on high which looks fantastic.

So,games at 768p will looks good if You chose high settings

I'm currently playing at 1366x768 on a laptop with native resolution of 1600x900 due to GPU constraints. What can I say - it can be done, and you can get used to it eventually, but it's far less than stellar and should be avoided, if possible.

Regarding your concern about larger 'everything', you're sitting pretty close to the screen, so this really shouldn't be an issue. The only reason you should play on a 1366x768 res on a 1920x1080 screen is if your laptop's specs can't handle the game you're trying to play.

It's not going to look as clear as it would on a 768p screen of equal quality because you're not using a one to one pixel ratio. That's not to say that it looks bad, though. I play most of my games at 768p on my dv6tqe.

Sorry, I think "far less than stellar" is overstating the issue.

Btw, OP, 3D elements in games shouldn't be "larger" at lower resolutions, they should just be fuzzier.

    IQ wise:

    native 1080P > native 900P > upscaled 900P on native 1080P > native 768P > upscaled 768P on native 900P/1080P
