    I don't have any overclocks (using 163.16 forceware) and I don't have any 3dmark05 scores.

    Mine scored 1513 on 3dmark06 @ 1280x800.

    What's your scoring on 06 devils?

    1142 in 3dmark06 @ 1280x800 without overclocking
    sm 2.0 score = 520
    hdr/sm3.0 score = 526
    cpu score = 1393

    System: 8400M GS, Core 2 Duo T5470, 1GB RAM on a Dell Vostro 1500 running Windows XP
    nVidia Driver: 167.26 (from laptopvideo2go)

    This seems *really* low. Had most of my programs/services shut down. Anyone have any idea why this might be?

    Is there any way to get 3dmark05 running on vista? Someone said it wasn't compatible? I downloaded 3dmark06 for my new vostro 1400 with 8400gs and got 1437 (513, 515, 1764cpu). I believe this about right but i'm not sure what res/settings that was on to be honest. Do I need to purchase the full software to change the resolution?

    Eventually I do want to overclock, but I need to read up and build up the courage :p

    Thats weird dubesor. You have higher graphics scores that me but understandably lower cpu score due to my t7300. But surely the cpu doesn't make that much of a difference to a 3dmark06 score?

    Thanks, Dave

    Just ran 3dmark05. Here's the result :(

    3dmark05 Score = 2329 (1280x800)
    (I ran this with all 3 Game Tests, 2 CPU Tests, 5 Feature Tests, and 6 Batch Size Tests selected. Does everyone else do the same?)
    CPU Score = 6544
    Game Test 1 = 9.7 fps
    Game Test 2 = 7.8 fps
    Game Test 3 = 10.7 fps
    CPU Test 1 = 3.8 fps
    CPU Test 2 = 5.0 fps
    Fill Rate - Single-texturing = 667.9 MTexels/s
    Fill Rate - Multi-texturing = 3056.7 MTexels/s
    Pixel shader = 47.2 fps
    Vertex shader - simple = 18.0 MVertices/s
    Vertex shader - complex = 25.6 MVertices/s
    8 Triangles = 8.6 MTriangles/s
    32 Triangles = 33.8 MTriangles/s
    128 Triangles = 57.6 MTriangles/s
    512 Triangles = 60.4 MTriangles/s
    2048 Triangles = 61.1 MTriangles/s
    32768 Triangles = 61.3 MTriangles/s

    Along with my 1142 from 3dmark06, this seems strangely low. Anyone else get these kinds of low scores on the 8400M GS?

    Just downloaded 3dmark05 and it actually worked with vista (thought it didnt). Results where:

    GT1 - Return To Proxycon 13.8 fps
    GT2 - Firefly Forest 10.2 fps
    GT3 - Canyon Flight 13.9 fps

    CPU Tests
    CPU Test 1 6.2 fps
    CPU Test 2 7.5 fps

    Overall Mark: 3122

    Not bad! GPU temp reached 84deg lol, or at least RivaTuner says so, seems abit toasty.

    You're results are at 1280x800 dubesor, thats probably why! Most of us don't have the full version of 3dmark and so it defaults (i believe) at 1024x768 no AA. I presume you have the full version as you showed the feature tests and in the demo you can't run them. Try at my those settings and so what you get, should improve dramatically and the same for 3dmark06. I got 1437 i believe.

    @davey: still getting nowhere close to your 3dmark score even in 1024x768 with new drivers. 3dmark06 jumped drastically though. see below ...

    3dmark05 Score = 2705
    game test 1 = 11.5 fps
    game test 2 = 9.0 fps
    game test 3 = 12.2 fps
    cpu = 5758
    cpu1 = 2.9 fps
    cpu2 = 5.0 fps

    3dmark06 Score = 1674
    sdm 2.0 = 594
    hdr/sm 3.0 = 630
    cpu = 1432

    System: Dell Vostro 1500, Core 2 Duo T5470, 1GB RAM, Windows XP
    Video: 8400M GS running 169.04 XP 32-bit drivers, not overclocked or nTuned.

    Thats weird: A 15-20% gain over my 3dmark06 but a 15-20% loss over my 3dmark05? :confused:

    I suppose the differences are my t7300 2.ghz, 2gigs, 7200rpm harddrive (unless you have one?) and vista...oh and you have a vostro 1500 though I'm guessing fundamentally that makes little difference. I use the latest drivers (169.04 i think). In gaming theres probably little difference.

    I've got the Quadro NVS140M in my ThinkPad. The specs are inbetween the 8400M GS and the 8400M GT.

    Overclocked:
    600mhz core
    900mhz memory

    3dMark05 - 5224

    3dMark06 - 2311

    I really wish I had known that the 8400m gs in the vostro 1400 allows much higher memory overclocking than in the 1500. I have the vostro 1500 and the memory clocks peak at about 530 before going unstable. I'm running at about 640/520 right now on the 167.26 driver. Anyone have more success with more recent drivers?

    Using the laptop in my sig, at 1280x800, I got:
    2523 3DMark 2006 Score
    SM 2.0 Score: 897
    HDR/SM 3.0 Score: 991
    CPU Score: 1662

    I think the hottest it got was around 78 C or so.
    The core is OC'ed to 602 and the memory is OC'ed to 880.
    Running 169.04 from laptopvideo2go.

    The 8400 GS is particular is kinda gimped but hey, it's twice as powerful as my laptop's GPU.
