Soft Shadow has the biggest impact on FPS especially for a game like FEAR.

I idle at about 65c and peak at 90 playing Far Cry at max settings on mid resolution. but then I can be in windows just browsing the web for 2 hours and it still wont go below 70. It sure gets hot. I also have a USB cooling pad with 2 fans, but I have a feeling it has minimal effect on it, like maybe 1 degree.

Heh, I just blow a desktop fan on mine and it actually reduces temps by 5C or so apparently.
GPU (GeForce 8600GT 512mb ram GDDR2) idles at around 50-60C depending on what I m or have been doing. Hottest it ever got was 94-95C playing HL2.
CPU (Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz) goes anywhere from 45-60 on normal use. -

Asus G1S 8600m GT
EDIT: I just setup Rivatuner so I could measure temps while in game and now I see that it gets up to 105!!!
However, I haven't had any artifacts, drop in performance, or shutdowns. -
Idle 45-50C
When gaming well I dont do that.
Under heavy Cad renderings or solitare, 16x FSAA enabled, peak at 55C
After running 3d Mark, 16x FSAA enabled, peak at 76C.
I always have my fans on full speed, so my Quadro FX2500M does not get that hot.
