Is it actually overclocking your card. Get GPU-z and check the clock speeds before and after trying to set the clocks.

yea gpu-z doesnt change, but in 3dmark06 system info it changes. Im thinking it really isnt overclocking the card now.

I believe ATI tool is the industry standard (or at least half of it :p)

I'm interested in how much you can oc your card, keep us updated :)

ati tool whenever i bump the speed up, it for some reason downclocks the gpu, more and more and then shuts it off. I dont think my new card is supported yet, isnt the latest version of atitool from last year?

Do you really NEED to overclock? I ask this as you have a good card and shouldn't be needing to OC as much as if you had a x2300.

I've just ran the "Can you run it?" test at http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
I fail only on my processor speed. You shouldn't have too much of a problem but may need to drop the details to get more fps. Try it. I find it very annoying that the game manufacturers/publishers don't release demos as often as they used to. At least then we know for sure how a game is going to perform on our systems.

Maybe the program enables some kind of automatic downclocking like powermizer with the nvidia gpu's? Does it clock back up when running games or 3Dmark?

no the sliderup raise or lower the speed goes down after i hit set clock, then if i raise it again it goes even lower, the slider automatically moves, its the software. The it gets so low that the gpu crashes.

So it's probably a driver issue. I found this page which may be of some help. If you can use rivatuner to adjust the powersaver clocks then it might stop your card from crashing.

Do asus provide the latest drivers for your card?

yes asus has me on catalyst 8.4 i believe. The card in my latop isnt overheating, its just too new to be supported, same thing happened with the 2600 then after atitool updates, it overclocked. guess i just have to wait. Thanks for the help so far!
