This application easily switches PowerMizer off and on, I made it based on the tutorial here :
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=261929 (thanks to kenside34)

If you don't know what PowermMizer is, you might be familiar with it's effect

    [IMG] [IMG]

    Now what is PowerMizer :

This might be handy, saving you more battery life ... but at the same time it downclocks your GPU .. so u might feel that gaming on battery is alot slower than on A/C .. if you want to play games on the go, this is the application for you ...

Note: this app only changes some registry values and is completely reversible and safe, if you don't want it just choose "PowerMizer on" .. and restart

I am not responsible for any damages caused by the use of this application .. use at your own risk ..

    Download v1.2: http://www.box.net/shared/v7jpoateoq

Hope you enjoy it .. this app is tested on XP, Vista, Windows7 and working 100%

    Knows issues:
    - Does not work with UAC turned on. Solution: Rightclick & "Run as Administrator"
    - Nothing seems to change. Solution: Restart

Doesn't Vista already do this through its power plans? Keep the computer on performance mode and it won't downclock the GPU on battery?

No, it doesn't on my notebook. And additionally I have read many posts confirming that.
You can try and see yourself with GPU-Z. It monitors the clock rate and temperature.

this is interesting because somehow even after i altered the registry (according to kenside34) it still downclocks for no reason (on AC not battery)

Thanks! I'm pretty sure it will work with XP (in case you use windows at all :).
My application changes only some registry entries and the path to them should be equal both in Vista and XP.

Did you reboot after the changes? I also noticed GPU-Z needs some time to display the new clock values ..
Which driver version are you using? To look it up do a rightlick on your desk -> NVIDIA Control Panel -> Help -> System information

As soon as I open the program, it says, "Powermizer Settings Not Found", then closes.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

i think u either don't have a card that supports powrmizer .. oor the nvidia driver that u have installed doesn't have powermizer registry values in it .. that's why the tool can't find the strings to change . i would recommend u to go to laptop2go site and get the latest nvidia drivers from there (i just updated to 177.x drivers .. really imrpove performance btw)

hope this works for u .. if it didnt maybe someone has a solution for ur prob or u can wait for the developer of the app to come back from vacation and help u out :)

    have a nice day

    @badadee & alexlm :
I cant help you without any details. Maybe we could locate the problem though if you follow the instructions I wrote on the second page for badadee.

    @Kevin_Jack2.0:
My app checks if it can find "PerfLevelSrc" in your registry because it seems to be some essential part of PowerMizer. If its not there, you can try to search it manually and otherwise do what bAsem said - new drivers & check your video card specifications for PowerMizer

    @bAsem:
    Thanks for helping :)

    Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Your app was working perfectly for me, but then somehow my driver (175.19) became corrupt and I had to reinstall it. The first thing I did was to look for "PerfLevelSrc", and it is indeed no longer in the registry.

I guess I'll try another uninstall -> clean -> reinstall. The driver has been great for months, and I don't know what happened to mess things up.

    Cheers.

So mine won't work for some reason... I'm using Vista 32-bit with the 177.72 Driver that just came out.

I want Powermizer OFF when I have A/C plugged in, but I want Powermizer ON when A/C isn't plugged in. For some reason, everytime I hit "Max Performance on A/C" in the powermizer switch, I re-start my laptop and nothing happens, it still says "ON". I ended up following the guide to disable it, and now both A/C and battery just have a "-" below them.

How do I get this switch to work and/or how do I get it so that I disable Powermizer for A/C but enable it for battery? What does the Powermizer Switch actually change?

    Thanks

well if u just can't get it to work then just follow the manual disable tuto .. this is just an easier replicate of it ..

if u want it off on a/c and on on battery just make "[perflevelsrc=3322]"
and the rest from the manual disable tuto

No luck for me also i have been using the regedit method and the switcher to turn off the poweroptimizer and the clock boost from 170 to 475 as shown by GPU but after a few matches with PES 2008 it automatic downclock the clock to 225 as shown in GPU and make the game lag.

I Try 177.73 but it still downcloak my GPU to 275 after a few minutes on PES2008, By the way the digital vibrance reset itself to 0 every time my laptop restart.

i will test out the new 177.79 and report back

ok i solve the issue of digital vibrance getting reseted by adjusting 3d application in nvidia control penal to "use my emphasizing" rather than "let 3d application decide"

But the downclock issue still happen, Any ideaS?

Hi, I'm from Chile, your app for powermizer is awesome, but I want to know if there's a way to force the system to be in low-power 3d performance over windows vista instead of always running at performance 3d. I've a HP Pavilion DV6921la with the Geforce 7150m, I think performance 3D gets the best of aero, but also I think that with low-3d performance (250 mhz) woul be enough for aero too, my concern of this is because the heat is noticeable, 60°C when performance 3d is always on with your app.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Magentic!
Thanks. You can force performance levels with RivaTuner. The linked page in my previous post describes how to to this.

Hi again, thanks for the quick replay.

Well, I don't like Riva Tuner, so I was wondering doing the change in the registry.

I have tryed several times, modifying the config in the registry entries below PerfLevelSrc.

The entries and values I've found are:

    PowerMizerDefault 3
    PowerMizerEnable 1
    PowerMizerLevel 3
    PowerMizerLevelAC 1

Well, I've done the following changes, firts the 3322 in PerfLevelSrc, and then in powermizerlevelac I've put 2, but the system with ac stays in Low-3d Performance, but if an application that needs powerfull 3d power is active the system doesn't goes to performance level, it stays only in low 3d.

Anyone that knows which values coul make low 3d performance de stable profile in vista with ac, and if an appz requires more power the powermizer automatically turns up the frecuency in the gpu.?

Oh, I hope I understood you correctly, this is the standard Powermizer setting. You do not even need my app then :)
Just click the lowest button (Enable all).

Hi Again, well enable all it's not what I want to do.

Let me explain better, the gpu 7150m has 3 differents modes (core speeds) (100/250/425 Mhz)= (Standard 2d/ Low 3d Performance / Performance 3d).

Whit the settings of enable all, my core goes to 100 Mhz in vista, and that causes lag in aero, and in other things, when I apply max performance with ac, the core keeps always at 425 Mhz (I think it's too much for windows, and the notebook gets hotter), so I want to have a medium balanced config, I want that in windows vista, with ac the default core speed stays at 250 mhz (lo2 3d performance), but if an appz needs more power, automatically it turns to 425 mhz, but never to 100 mhz. This with ac, with battery, I jsut need the standard config.

    Thanks :)

Try system restore, start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose to restore system config how it was before installing.
