Since Need For Speed Rivals is one of my favorite games and I love cars, I pre-ordered Need For Speed (the new one coming).
It says available to download Spring 2016.
I don't know what is Spring, when is Spring? like when can I expect it to be available.
If anyone saw the trailers of this game, it would make you dr00l

I was also curious about this one, until I saw how many story cutscenes it had... Nope! I mean, they use words like "bae"...

Why pre-order? Gives you a lot of benefits like unlocked cars and whatnot
No trust EA? Never had a problem with them personally. I have FIFA 14, 15, and 16, all worked great even with SLI. Maybe you had a bad experience but I didn't.
Bet it'll be 30 FPS too? I don't know what you mean by that? at the moment I play NFS Rivals and it is one of the most beautiful looking games I have with very nice weather effects like the rain, lightning, sun on the horizon, etc. and it runs very smooth, although I didn't measure the FPS but I don't think this smoothness that I experienced was anywhere near a 30 FPS rate. -
I know it does, that's kind of how they get people to do it. I'm just against the whole pre-order model in general, especially with all the unoptimized titles coming out.
Eh FIFA is... a relatively stable series with little changes. I was quicker considering other titles like their recent Need For Speed ones and Dragon Age and Battlefield etc.
I don't know if the LAST need for speed was 30fps, but one of the ones in the last couple years was locked to 30fps, and unlocking it to 60 made the game run twice as fast, because they tied the Physics to the fps. Never assume fps! Always check! =Dsasuke256 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
That was NFS Rivals, the game Phoenix mentions.
-

Strange, that's the one I have now and I haven't ever noticed that the FPS is 30 FPS nor was it twice as fast. I did use the GeForce Experience recommended optimizations though and have GSYNC On and Triple Buffering ON and VSYNC ON (smooth) which works best for SLI -
That's how some games are. They can (appear to) be smooth but not be running at 60 FPS but instead at 30 FPS. Tying the game's FPS to the Physics engine is not the best idea and is an archaic method.
However, the latest Need for Speed will run at 60 FPS (if your PC can deliver 60 FPS, that is) without 2x speed. Read more here in the NFS FAQ.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Throw in Porsche Unleashed while they are at it. As for the new game, does it keep the tendency for full auto shift as the last few NFS games (which I haven't played for obvious reasons).HTWingNut and killkenny1 like this.

Might as well drop NFS III in that list. Its soundtrack is glorious!

NFS Rivals was awful... No manual shift, hold your hand driver assistants, no sense of simulation. Locked to 30 FPS. Can't pause in SP, lots of bugs and glitches. Game was just terrible...
The last NFS game I liked was NFS: Shift. Shift 2 was also disappointing.
Based on reviews I've read, NFS reboot has the same problems NFS Rivals does. No manual, dumb rubber banding AI, always online, no pause etc. Pre-order? I think anyone who likes racing games would be insane to pre-order this on PC. 30 FPS again? Wouldn't surprise me.Last edited: Jan 5, 2016TBoneSan, TomJGX, triturbo and 1 other person like this. -

I also liked Shift. Wonder what was wrong with Shift 2? -
I thought Shift 2 became too sim, and NFS was about having some elements of arcarde fun. Also the AI was too aggressive for me, they were doing what I felt was impossible for those cars. Also controls for the game... I believe you really need wheel and pedals which I will never buy, I'm not interested in simulating real races, it's still a game to me.
NFS should find a good balance between arcade and sim.killkenny1 and triturbo like this. -
I agree. I do like sims, and I had a wheel, would get a new one as well, but I do LOVE my occasional racing fix to be without the need of half-an-hour preparation and even then its not exactly fun, but a bit frustrating at times.
So the "new" game would be just as ****ty as the previous ones? I guess EA were blamed for too sim-like NFS games and then they just removed everything that even remotely makes it a game, but rather a movie and that's how recent NFS' were born.
@killkenny1 - Spent tons of time on NFS III as well, my NFS list is (arranged to my liking) - Porsche, U2, Hot Pursuit*, U1, Most Wanted*, and a bit surprising - The Run. (*the originals, not the reboots). Coincidence or not they also had great soundtracks (arranged by quality just like in the above list IMO, I LOVE the Porsche soundtrack). -
Porsche Unleashed was the best. I have still hooked it up time and again to play. A refresh would be nice though.triturbo likes this.

Some of those things were present in other NFS games, like ridiculous enemy "ketchup" you've mentioned. And controls were painful in NFSS as well, for keyboard that is. But are you sure there weren't any difficulty controls? Shift was pretty flexible, maybe Shift 2 had it too.
Shame EA gave up on the new series. Shift was one of my most favourite NFS games in years. Previously I enjoyed ProStreet, but it still was too...Too Fast Too Furious. When I tried Shift I really felt like it was it! And judging by the amount of similar games on Steam, it could have gone places.
Maybe I should grab Shift 2 some time...
Oh crap, I don't know where to start. First ever game I had for PC was NFS III, so maybe this fact is to blame for my nostalgia crap
.
Over the years I've played II, III, IV, V, VI, UG, UG2, MW, C, PS, UC, S, HP (wow, quite a list), but after that I lost all interest. I think there was a MW reboot, and then Rival and Run came out... When I looked at them... My... Why? Why did you turn NFS into 2F2F, EA?!? It was fine in UG/UG2, but around OG MW all those cutscenes just ruined the game for me. I don't want to watch a movie, I want to play the game. Especially if the story was probably written by a twelve year old...
And then were was all that cheese starting from MW (UG2 was okay-ish). Blacklists, showdowns, rivals... Ughhhh...
That's why I play Euro Truck Simulator 2 these days.
What? It's still better than Undercover. And I can put NFS III OST on radio, so take that!triturbo likes this. -

Split screen was awesome and when PCs were still considered exotics, it was the only way to play if you don't want to wait for a few hours (PC club/room, something like internet cafe, but you can play games).
@killkenny1 - Guess what I'm playing as well
Blasting with my FH16 700 @167km/h. Removing the speed limiter makes it THAT much more fun and engaging too, you have to be VERY careful with these uneven corners. Soon to get FH16 750.

I loved the original NFS - the graphics were photo realistic for those days. Then the first Hot Persuit was good too.
The franchise got steadily worse in my opinion. Then they put the final nail in the coffin gimping the physics to 30fps. Hooray for the new one being 60fps but let's hope they don't gimp the new one to 60fps like Fallout did.Last edited: Jan 6, 2016i_pk_pjers_i and TomJGX like this. -

I was cautiously optimistic about this game, as it appeared that NFS might finally be returning to the style of the mid-decade era (UG2, MW, Carbon), but it appears as though it's even worse than Rivals.
And don't pre-order games pls. It encourages bad market practices, often results in the consumer getting shafted, gives unfair advantages and is detrimental to the industry as a whole. It's well summed-up in this video:
Even Kotaku has woken up about this.

But hey, make your own decisions. We can only give you the info.
And dang, y'all talking about NFS3 brings back some stuff.
I modded the hell out of that game, played it up until 2005 or so just messing with the engine. Too bad HP2 for the PC sucked.
Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know a way I could still play HP on a 64-bit system? I know you can use DOS emulation, but I really don't want to go down that route (last experience was trying to get Nethack to work for my old BB Playbook since a port didn't exist for QNX at the time; was a complete nightmare).Spartan@HIDevolution and triturbo like this. -

Here we are, ladies and gentlemen, year 2016 and things like unlock frame rates excite us for some reason. Don't get me wrong, it's great it's there, but such thing must be present in games by default (unless reasons, please no BS reasons though).
One thing is in my mind now, can't make it go away - if manual transmission will be present on PC version, but not on consoles, does that mean that console kiddies can't handle it?

By the way, why only five gears? Where's the 6th? Or is it a part of some GameStop preorder deal?Last edited: Feb 11, 2016 -
Oh sorry, yeah six. Yeah learning stick for the first time (or first dozen times) is always interesting. The kerchunk kerchunk kerchunk as the car sputters and jerks to a halt, lol. Or the grinding of gears... eek, about as bad as scratching nails on a chalkboard. I drove a truck with a stick for six years, but had to get rid of the dang thing because winter time was no fun.

I played GRID and GRID 2 and DiRT 2 at 100fps... I don't understand this "new experience" thing you are talking about.
That entire video looked to me like this:
"We put back in unlocked resolution options! And we put back in good audio! And we let you unlock your FPS again! And we put back in support for steering wheels and other peripherals! We put back in the ability to configure your controls like all those older racing games did too! You know, all the stuff that always has existed for racing games on PC since forever? Yeah! We put it back in, so it's our entire advertising campaign! Oh and free content updates too I guess."
D2 is not impressed by PC ports getting features they're meant to have from the beginning and being touted as "features". -
Although I feel the same way as you, wouldn't you be excited if more brands return to MXM? It's the same in my book - dumbed down things, getting back to (kinda) enthusiast level. In a world where everything is going to hell, that's a ray of light LOL
-
Unlike hardware, where the power and functionality is king, games don't need to be "better" because they're newer. When companies try to tout features for a platform that should exist in the first place, I just feel they have nothing to offer for the platform that's special. "Why should I buy this game? You telling me it has features that should exist in the first place doesn't count as a selling point," is how I feel.
If they'd said... no always online, pausing in single player, 3D vision/VR support, ultra widescreen monitor support, modding support? THOSE are "PC features" to tout to the public. Not the stuff we've had for years and should have regardless of the game. -
NFS: Most Wanted 2012 is free in Origin now but I wish it was Underground 2. Sooo much enjoy I had playing it. And sooo much dissapoinment from Most Wanted. I jumped from U2 to Carbon.

A solid rant there, Mr. D2 Ultima.
Funny how things that were a normal set of features you expected a game to have "back in the day," nowadays are viewed as something worthy of a praise. Devs started to take away those features and now expect us to love them for bringing them back?!?
Wheel support in a racing game is a must people! You can shove your achievements up yer's, and instead give a manual transmission.
As for that teaser. You can give me nostalgia with that song all day long, EA, but I know it won't half as good as NFSU... -
I don't even think that most people get roped in or even excited about those "features" being selling points. But Marketing figures "this is what PC people want, so let's big it up!". But it's not what people "want" so much as "what people deserve". In console terms, for example, that trailer basically said "ability to change TV resolution!" and "Ability to use controllers!" and "audio support for surround systems!" and all the stuff that nobody expects to NOT be there.
See Marketing doesn't play games. Like, ever. They don't know, they don't care, they just look for what's "wanted" and pretty-up everything that's "wanted" online and on social media etc, without understanding why it's wanted, or discerning the difference between "wanted" and "expected". The only thing that's currently a gimmick is 4K support. People can barely max games at 1440p on single cards, far less getting higher than 60fps on them, but 4K is suddenly the thing everybody wants to have. It's really silly.
I hope more people rip into them for it though. Rock Paper Shotgun already tore into them about it. -
