I have to write this because I'm pretty p*ssed about it.

I have to check and cut over 27 hours of video in Premiere Pro CC. The new CC version can now support OpenCL with Radeon cards so I can navigate the timeline pretty smoothly even after adding some effects. So I go to the main website to check the list of compatible graphics cards and I see this Screenshot by Lightshot . Every possible laptop Radeon cards is there except the 8970M, and that specefic card came out before this Premiere Pro version was released. Even the new R9 290 is there. So why not mine ?

I thought the program could still work fine with my 8970M but I came across another problem. Enduro. Screenshot by Lightshot
It's in french but it basically says that the program is locked on Intel HD and I can't do anything about it.

I'm really dissapointed as I really don't want to wait half a year for something like this.

Any idea ? The laptop is a Clevo P170SM

If the hardware is compatible it maybe just a slip up with the .ini file that can be easily edited to make it work.

Wouldn't fret too much just yet.

It's called switchable graphics. Just set the Premiere Pro CC to use the Radeon in the Catalyst Control Panel.

    All of the above.

And PP CC will work with virtually any card so long as it has enough memory. Even if it hasn't been certified.

But why there's a lock on Premiere Pro there ? Screenshot by Lightshot It forces me to stay on power saving and refuses to switch to high performance unlike after effects and other Adobe apps

I added the card in the .ini file. When I start the application, the fan turns on but Afterburner showed me that the gpu usage always stayed at 0% even after doing previews with basic gpu accelerated effects.

This may be a stretch, but rename the Premier Pro CC .exe to something else, and add it manually to Catalyst Control Center switchable graphics, see if that works.

This has worked for me with a couple of other software. I'd give this a try.

I don't know but the other Abobe product are working its likely a setting issue. Maybe we can narrow it down for you? Verify that you have the proper settings:

File > Project Settings > General > Renderer: Mercury Playback engine GPU Acceleration.

Also, don't forget to let us know if you solve the issue and how.

I tried to rename the exe file to remove the lock and it did. I've set it to high performance and I can open the program with no issue.

But now there's another problem. When I enable GPU Acceleration, the preview screen stays black and the video refuses to show up. I have to deactivate the option to make it work again. I made sure I had the lastest driver and lastest update from adobe, but no success :/

What video are you feeding it? It may have a defect. Have you tried varying the video source? You can easily download video source materiel as well as stills.

Remember, the GPU acceleration is only activated when applicable effects are applied. Otherwise, Premiere Pro relies solely on the CPU.
