Maybe this was brought up, but this might actually be good. At least the trailer looks remniscent of the 3D game:

So a new POP movie will be coming out with confirmed sequels.
The trailer looks nice. When is this movie coming out? -
According to that trailer 28 of may
-
It's a Disney movie. It should be excellent.
-
Didn't watch the trailer, but if it follows the trend of the vast majority of game-based movies lots of gamers will be disappointed.
-
It doesn't appear to be following that trend at all. It has a huge budget, decent actors, and competent directors and producers. It honestly looks just like Pirates of the Caribbean but Prince of Persia (not surprising since Bruckheimer did both). I don't see how it can't be the best video game movie ever made (but thats not saying much given the level of context).
-
So all the ingredients are there for a decent movie, but will it deliver? Plenty before it have promised but end up failing at the most crucial arena: the box office.
-
Well how good it will be comes down to how they "port" the game to the movie basically. Will they adapt things like storyline, special effects, combat style, character interaction and all?
-
Based on the trailer cinematics, it looks spot on PoP. Plus the setting seems to have a lot more mass appeal. It's not something oddball like Doom or something.

Speaking of game movies what ever became of the Gears of War movie they were talking about way back when?
Did that ever come to fruition? This movie is good though Disney will give it the right budget. -

The movie has plenty of changes from the Sands of Time trilogy. The Prince isn't a real prince, but some buy the king picked up somewhere. Something about keeping his real sons for fighting over the throne or something. The Prince also has a name, Dastan, while the game Prince was unnamed. The princess has a different name (Tamina, not Farah), there's talk of a temple, and it goes on and on.
But I'm not a purist. It's an adaptation, so I'm not going to pick fights over names. There are definitely elements shared, though. Sands of Time (duh), acrobatic fighting, parkour (I saw the famous wall-to-wall jumps), and I swear I saw the daggertail. This movie will be wicked awesome.
By the way, I'm surprised no one picked up on this sooner. Then again I'm a Prince of Persia fanboy. -
Well we all know how video game based movies usually end up.. I wasn't so much excited because it just means more disapointment. But seeing this trailer kinda gives me hope that it might be a good movie.
-
I wonder if they'll make a video game based on the movie based on the video game. That would be hilarious.
I hope the movie turns out all right. So far it looks very promising, more so than any other video game movie I've seen. -
So it will be just like every other Bruckheimer movie... which is just like every other Bruckheimer movie. Same color schemes, same music, same shots/scenes, same... everything.
-
I dont think that will be hilarious.
-
Agreed. It could be worse, Michael Bay could be the director. And everything I was saying was to be considered in the context: that of video game movies. It won't be hard to beat a Uwe Boll production.
-
General consensus would be that if the audience keeps little to no expectations and goes to the movie expecting to be entertained, there should be entertainment to be hand if everything else is put to one side.
-
well it looks to me that the actor playing the prince actually sort of looks like him from the original games (sands of time trilogy)
-
Well I'd kinda have prefered a Persian to actually play a Persian character, but Jake Gyllenhaal is decent I suppose >.>
-
And how many Persian actors are there? Persia no longer exists.
-
I meant in that corner of the world. You know, it's just a question of ethnic accuracy if anything lol
I'm mostly being nitpicky but as long as he plays the role right, I'm fine with it.
-
I wonder if Hollywood could type-cast someone from Iran/Iraq to look like the Prince without paying a fortune or getting into trouble because of the political situation.
-

I can't really picture Gyllenhaal as much of a straight down fighter, as the prince was in the last two games. He doesn't seem as rough and gruff imo =/
-
It seems they needed a martial arts expert really. They could have made up Jason Statham to look pretty Persian looking. Then he could stick his tongue in a light socket and drive a car really fast for good measure.
Although I don't think I have ever seen him NOT bald. -

"Posessing the Dagger of Time makes people bald."
With that explanation, all of our problems are solved. -
Jake Gyllenhaal? what?!
-
LOL! Good one. One line and everything is solved. +1!
Jason Statham with dreadlocks just wouldn't be quite believable. LOL. -
Present day Iranians are Persians. The borders might no-longer be called the Persian Empire, but the ethnicity of the Iranian people is still Persian. They still speak the Persian language of Farsi as their mother tongue (alphabets has changed, but still the same Indo-European language) and the culture is still there.
Here are some Iranian actors that could have played the prince, but maybe not with the same fake British accent as Jake:
