I just might have to buy it solely because of the lack of DRM...

That's an interesting move on Ubisoft's part and I'll be looking forward to see how the public reacts to this.

The adventure action style isn't even a genre I like, but I think I'd also buy it just because it doesn't have DRM, if this holds true. Also, I cannot believe this because I'm sure the game will have a cd key activation, or create registry entries, and as long as it does either of those things, it's still a form a DRM. If that's all it did though, and I can install it on all of my computers while they're offline and as much as I want without worrying about if I can never play my game again if I install it too many times, then I'll buy.

I also agree with the posts there on that forum. DRM methods never stop piracy, there isn't a single pirate who won't be able to play the game because of the DRM in place, they're just pissing off the buyers. Even if thier game gets pirated just as much as a game with restrictive DRM on it, atleast their buyers will be ALOT more satisfied with their purchase.

    POP is adventurous and fun.
    So better get one.
But the graphics in this new realease is kind a comic.
Not like other game focusing on the real environment or character.

Out of curiosity, Heroes of Might and Magic V published by Ubisoft earlier this year/late last year ran out of the box without needing the DVD. Is everyone else here sure this is the first time an Ubisoft-published product has been released with no DRM?

I have Heroes of Might and Magic V as well as the expansion Tribes of the East (excellent expansion by the way, which makes the game a whole lot better). Heroes of Might and Magic V does not have draconian DRM (DDRM) that would require online activation nor does it have limited installs, but it does have SecuROM with a disk check. Tribes of the East, the expansion, does not indeed have DRM at all. Nevertheless, Prince of Persia is, I believe, the first major full game (rather than an expansion) from Ubisoft that does not have any DRM on its retail version (the Steam version still has Steam DRM, of course, since Steam is a form of DRM).

    I preordered PoP for $30 :D woot!

I have to applaud Ubisoft in general this year. They have really improved their game (lol pun intended). I was the biggest Ubi critic around for the last few years. They had a habit of releasing poorly ported games and seemed non too concerned. But I have bought 3 Ubi games this year; Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 2 and PoP (yet to arrive). And so far I am very happy with the quality of the two I have played. No DRM on PoP says big things about Ubi's new attitude and I hope their precedent continues and inspires other big name publishers and developers to follow. Three cheers for Ubi!

Wasn't this released in 2005? I think DRM was not really prominent yet at that point. It may be if you bought the game recently it has been patched with a no CD patch. Not uncommon for companies to do this with older games.

I'm sorry but what is DRM? Is it where you can only install it on like three systems or something?

Also I have never played a PoP game. Is it similar to the GoW series in terms of game play and fighting? I really like the GoW series.

If this game is anything like Sands of Time (which by all accounts it is), it's not even close to the GoW series. POP focuses primarily on platforming, GoW doesn't. There are no special moves in POP, nor are there death animations in POP. POP has a completely different feel from GoW; however, this doesn't mean you won't like it.

    About DRM, just check wikipedia.

GoW does share some similarities to PoP games. There is a bit of platforming in GoW and definitely puzzle solving which was awesome in PoP Sands of Time. But the fighting in GoW is way superior to Sands of Time. The new PoP is a bit different; platforming is very good, not really much puzzles to be had and the fighting is rhythm based, kind of like GoW, and way better than Sands of Time. So I would say if you liked GoW you will like the new PoP too. :)

Edit: I would also recommend Sands of Time as the platforming and puzzles make this game a must.

Edit 2: Oh and Sands of Time is FREE (ad supported) from Gamershell.

PoP's speed killing in "the two thrones" was similar to GoW's finishing moves, but yeah, their general gameplay is different.

Sorry, I was referring to the Tribes of the East standalone which was released late last year. The 1st expansion however did have SecuRom on it but outcry from the fanbase must have led to the lack of the DVD-check on the standalone.

Yes, one of the applications of DRM(Digital Rights Management) is to limit the amount of installations a certain program has. Another one can be to limit the amount of uses a program has(ex: a license expires after 50 uses), the time of use(such as with licenses that expire after 3 years), transferring of data(ex: you can't move mp3s from mp3 players to the computer on many mainstream mp3 players anymore) and other such things.

Basically, it limits a product a company is selling so that the company still has control of the product, even after you purchase it.

Precisely what Forever_Melody said. There are various other things it sometimes does, such as requiring online activation or authentication every time you install the game and so on. Old DRM systems used to be not so onerous and I found them acceptable (e.g. disk checks or CD-keys), but many of the new ones impose more and more restrictions, that many of us deem unacceptable. What's more, pirates rarely have to suffer the DRM's restrictions, since in the process of pirating the game they remove the DRM. That's why it's such a big deal that Ubisoft has taken this very positive step (actually a giant leap) and decided not to use DRM on this game.

Yeah the main concern about DRM is that it actually doesn't stop pirating(because the people even crack through the DRM), but it limits the general "legal" consumer by all those things it does(ex: with the number of installations you can use the program for).

At this point in time, DRM is more of a hindrance than anythign else to most people. Not to say that nothing should be done about hackers or such, but DRM does not seem to be a good way of going about it according to many consumers who actually do buy the products.

If you buy it for sake of lack of DRM, be sure to send an email to the publisher and dev to let them know. Even if you bought it for being a good game, still send them a "thank you" email.

I think this is the only way devs and publishers will realize how important it is to honest game consumers.

i've never played any Prince of Persia games, but I sure do like FREE games. How does this ad supported game work? Flashes a banner in the middle of the screen everytime you jump/kill/run in the game? Or is on the side like an annoying NetZero ad you can't hide?

Assassin's Creed was originally meant to be the 4th installment of the Prince of Persia series, so yes, the gameplay will be similar.

Although this particular new game isn't part of the "Sands of Time" series so I don't know if they changed lots of stuff since those games.
