Ubisoft seems to be experimentally abandoning DRM. The retail version of the new Prince of Persia will not ship with any DRM!
I applaud Ubisoft's decision and really hope it works out for them!

Go Ubisoft!
-
I just might have to buy it solely because of the lack of DRM...
-
yeah me as well. Just to support this effort. i will buy this game.
i buy all my PC games i dont destroy the industry like those greedy disgraceful piraters out there. -
That's an interesting move on Ubisoft's part and I'll be looking forward to see how the public reacts to this.
-
The adventure action style isn't even a genre I like, but I think I'd also buy it just because it doesn't have DRM, if this holds true. Also, I cannot believe this because I'm sure the game will have a cd key activation, or create registry entries, and as long as it does either of those things, it's still a form a DRM. If that's all it did though, and I can install it on all of my computers while they're offline and as much as I want without worrying about if I can never play my game again if I install it too many times, then I'll buy.
I also agree with the posts there on that forum. DRM methods never stop piracy, there isn't a single pirate who won't be able to play the game because of the DRM in place, they're just pissing off the buyers. Even if thier game gets pirated just as much as a game with restrictive DRM on it, atleast their buyers will be ALOT more satisfied with their purchase. -
Well, i was going to get this for 360, but im buying it on PC JUST because of this
-
Sounds good
I might just grab the PC one instead of PS3.
-
A lot of talk about DRM these days...never played any prince of persia game before, but some are suppose to be really fun. Probably won't buy...

Out of curiosity, Heroes of Might and Magic V published by Ubisoft earlier this year/late last year ran out of the box without needing the DVD. Is everyone else here sure this is the first time an Ubisoft-published product has been released with no DRM?
-
when is it gunna be out on steam in europe T_T

thanks for the info anyway.

My copy is already in the mail. Hopefully it will get here by the time my sister comes home with my new laptop

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
I preordered PoP for $30
woot!
I have to applaud Ubisoft in general this year. They have really improved their game (lol pun intended). I was the biggest Ubi critic around for the last few years. They had a habit of releasing poorly ported games and seemed non too concerned. But I have bought 3 Ubi games this year; Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 2 and PoP (yet to arrive). And so far I am very happy with the quality of the two I have played. No DRM on PoP says big things about Ubi's new attitude and I hope their precedent continues and inspires other big name publishers and developers to follow. Three cheers for Ubi!
-
I'm sorry but what is DRM? Is it where you can only install it on like three systems or something?
Also I have never played a PoP game. Is it similar to the GoW series in terms of game play and fighting? I really like the GoW series. -
About DRM, just check wikipedia. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
GoW does share some similarities to PoP games. There is a bit of platforming in GoW and definitely puzzle solving which was awesome in PoP Sands of Time. But the fighting in GoW is way superior to Sands of Time. The new PoP is a bit different; platforming is very good, not really much puzzles to be had and the fighting is rhythm based, kind of like GoW, and way better than Sands of Time. So I would say if you liked GoW you will like the new PoP too.
Edit: I would also recommend Sands of Time as the platforming and puzzles make this game a must.
Edit 2: Oh and Sands of Time is FREE (ad supported) from Gamershell.

Hey did anyone get this yet? I'm curious for some benchmarks!
-
PoP's speed killing in "the two thrones" was similar to GoW's finishing moves, but yeah, their general gameplay is different.

vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
hey guys im sorry for being extremely slow but what does DRM do exactly? im reading but i don't get it. is it when the game lets u install it in more than one system?
-
Basically, it limits a product a company is selling so that the company still has control of the product, even after you purchase it. -
Precisely what Forever_Melody said. There are various other things it sometimes does, such as requiring online activation or authentication every time you install the game and so on. Old DRM systems used to be not so onerous and I found them acceptable (e.g. disk checks or CD-keys), but many of the new ones impose more and more restrictions, that many of us deem unacceptable. What's more, pirates rarely have to suffer the DRM's restrictions, since in the process of pirating the game they remove the DRM. That's why it's such a big deal that Ubisoft has taken this very positive step (actually a giant leap) and decided not to use DRM on this game. -
Yeah the main concern about DRM is that it actually doesn't stop pirating(because the people even crack through the DRM), but it limits the general "legal" consumer by all those things it does(ex: with the number of installations you can use the program for).
At this point in time, DRM is more of a hindrance than anythign else to most people. Not to say that nothing should be done about hackers or such, but DRM does not seem to be a good way of going about it according to many consumers who actually do buy the products. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Here's a good read about DRM from Valve's Greg Newell.

Here's an explanation about DRM complaints from Brad Wardell at Stardock.

Yeah, and the game a cute girl NPC that saves your life all the time.
-
Anyone actually own this and can confirm how the install process is? Also other requirements in the install process such as if u have to use a CD key, or keep the disk in the drive to play.
-
If you buy it for sake of lack of DRM, be sure to send an email to the publisher and dev to let them know. Even if you bought it for being a good game, still send them a "thank you" email.
I think this is the only way devs and publishers will realize how important it is to honest game consumers. -
So send'em an email. -
-
No i dont think so
-
Just buy the game. No need to email. They get their sales reports by the end of the month.
-
Yeah I've never played a Prince of Persia game either, but I hear its kinda like Assassin's Creed in terms of moving around. I'll probably pick this up soon.
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
-
-
cool, this pretty much made me 100% sure that i'm gonna go buy this game.
-
Assassin's Creed was originally meant to be the 4th installment of the Prince of Persia series, so yes, the gameplay will be similar.
Although this particular new game isn't part of the "Sands of Time" series so I don't know if they changed lots of stuff since those games.
Prince of Persia Won't Have Any DRM!
