Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.....what do you think????

Hi guys, just noticed the absence of any PES2009 thread so i thought i could make one so that we can share our thought and impressions about the game...

so finally PES2009 is out and i've been playing it for 5-6 hours so far and all i have to say is WOW!, this might actually be the best PES game ever(in terms of gameplay of course!!)....i've played all the PES games(yeah, all the 7 games!!) and i've always thought that PES5 was the best in the series!!. PES2009 basically feels like PES5 with better graphics, ball physics and AI!!, the new ball physics are just amazing and they make the game feels much more realistic than any other game in the series.

graphically i'm amazed, not only does PES2009 run much better that PES2008 but it looks so much better too, i don't really know if FIFA 09 looks better than PES2009 since the demo run like crap on my inspiron 9400(C2D t7200, 2GB ram, 7900gs 256mb) but PES2009 looks terrific running on medium settings and 1440x900 resolution with Vsync enabled, also i didn't encounter any slowdown during matches or replays.

one disappointment i have with the game was the animations, it just feels like konami didn't make any improvments to the animations this time around, with the exception of some new and really cool goalkeeper animations but that's about it...other flaws are things we've been expecting from konami, like the lack of licences and the ever terrible music and commentary, but for me as long as my favourite team AC milan and the italian league are included, no complaints ...

also the UEFA champions league has made it's debut on the PES series for the first time complete with all the logos and music and while it's a great addition it feels kinda a pointless since it's not incorporated into the master league mode and can only be played as stand-alone competition, still better than nothing....there's also a be-a-pro mode, in which you can play a single player and guide him through his career but even though i didn't have the time to test it, i'd say it's more of a throw-away extra...

after last year's extremely disappointing PES2008(the worst in the series IMO!!), the series is back to form again, and i hope that from now on konami will base all future PES games on PES5 and PES2009.....PES2009 might not be the most complete football game on the market but anyone who thinks gameplay is the priority in a football game should immediately try this game...

 

Thats really cool!! I've played PES2006, and I hate it. But when the PES2007 came, I changed my mind about PES! They are cool football games! I love FIFA series. I have played FIFA05, FIFA06, FIFA07 and FIFA08! But I think the PES will be better than FIFA08. Dont know about FIFA09!! LOL!

Ayways, I played the demo, still do, loving it. I think it's miles better than 08, can't wait to buy it.

it's been out for 2 days now in sweden, i bought it yesterday and i've been playing it for 7-8 hours and it's awsome. i was disappointed by PES2008 so much that i actually decided to switch to FIFA and see what the fuss is all about after reading all those reviews out there, so i bought FIFA 09, unfortunately apart from all that frustration coming from the game running like crap, the gameplay itself just doesn't feel right!, don't get me wrong i like the extras and the huge amount of content but the gameplay and controls just arn't there....to be honest, i uninstalled FIFA 09 immediately after playing the PES2009 demo!!....it feels bad to realize that i just spend 400SEK(about 29 US dollars) on a game that will just gather dust on my shelf!!!.........

 

That's cool, can't wait for it to come out in the States so I can buy it already!

Well......I have been playing PES for the last 4 years. I also play FIFA, but like PES more than FIFA. FIFA 09 is great improvement, but the gameplay is still 'rubber band' type, not smooth and free flowing, and it feels like everything is controlled.
On the other hand PES 2009, although the graphics of FIFA are way better than Pro Evo, also the commentary and presentation is way better in FIFA, the gameplay of Pro Evo 2009 wins over in the end.
FIFA has always limited ways in which you can score, but in PES 2009, its infinite, and the gameplay is so butterish.....feels so real.

PES 2009 >>> FIFA 09 (and belive me I've played FIFA 09 more than PES 2009, almost like 500% more, but still, I think PES takes it yet again)

I'm downloading the demo for FIFA 09 and PES 09 as we speak thanks to this thread.

I haven't played a soccer game for PC in a long time...I think it might of benn FIFA 04 and it seemed awful to me...

 

This year I decided to go for PES2009 (first time playing it). Needless to say,I have been missing out on some serious fun.

I've always been a die-hard FIFA fan, but I believe I may be switching over to the other side this year. PES2K9 gameplay definitely has me sold to the future installments.

 

I think I need a controller to play this, a keyboard just doesn't seem to work <.<

 

Yea, definitely need a controller. I played the first game on keyboard and I was all over the place. Then I plugged in the 360 controller which resulted in improved handling.

 

i agree with sa_ill, in PES2009 every match is different because of the completely open ended and free flowing gameplay while in FIFA the gameplay feels scripted and predictable and matches start to feel boring and tiring after a while....i'm having great fun playing PES2009 at the moment, i was playing in champions league mode and after some trouble in the group stages(lost to arsenal 0-2 home and drew to them 1-1 away!) i barely made it to the knock-out stage to face manchester utd, the first leg in manchester ended in goalless draw with many missed chances for both sides, in the second game i made a bright start and scored a lucky goal(a long range shot was deflected by one of their defenders into goal!!), then manchester got mad and put some serious pressure on me and succeded to equalize!, they didn't stop there and kept the pressure up and missed some great opportunities to score but i've had few amazing chances too....the score stayed level untill the 83 minute when ronaldinho scored an amazing volley following a terrific counterattack, kaka did some terrific individual effort and went on one of his amazing runs dribbling past 3 players before serving an amazing pass to ronaldinho.....my joy was immense, i don't think i've ever had this fun with a game as i'm having with PES2009 now, the game feels so real and the players behave just their real-life counterpart!, players like messi and torres are great at controlling the ball and dribbling even in when it's tight while others like kaka can be deadly and a terror to any defence if given space sepecially with his famous mazy runs just like real life, but he can also become useless when marked.......who cares about licences and extra content when the gameplay is this good.......PES2009 feels just like the football version of GTA......

 

Just for the people complaining about fifa 09 performance,
go to your FIFA 09 Demo folder, enter in "data" and then in "cmn". After that open "cfg_pc_h.ini" file and just change this line:
RENDER_RATE_MODE = 7
to
RENDER_RATE_MODE = 2

FPS should triple by doing this, game works perfect full Details, Native resolution,4xaa,16xaf with 60FPS vsync on.
