I formatted and reinstalled everything on my laptop and I still have fps drops when I play on a laptop:
    Lg R700,2.1 penryn,8600m gt, 3gig.

I think my laptop gets to hot and automaticly cools it as a security. I dont know but it can be and Im a newb on vista.
I have the latest 8600m GT driver (176.37) maybe it makes to much heat? maybe I should update bios or something?
Thankful for answers cuz I dont know what to do :(

And I have print screen on max temps before fps drops here on max

Have you taken it apart and checked the fans and heatsinks for dust?

Broken card? It's a 8600m GT after all.. Try to see if you can get it replaced

the dust would not be in the fans... its usually in the vents.

get a flash light to see if you can see the light through the other side of vents... if you cannot see anything, you will need to get some compressed air and push out the dust.

and make sure to only use the notebook on clean, hard, flat surfaces (preferably a good notebook cooler)

Never use on your lap or any other soft surfaces (bed, couch, etc...), it will block the vents/fans and prevent airflow from sufficiently cooling the notebook.

Lastly, if you check all of that and its still hot, then I would say the following:
    - your heatsink might be loose
    - the fan(s) might be faulty if there are not spinning up correctly
    - maybe you got one of the bad 8600M GT's with heat issues

That is really hot for your T8100. Mine only hits ~60 at full load. I would follow Gophn's suggestions.

Your GPU seems to be running pretty cool though. Usually we see the GPU and CPU temperatures reversed. Undervolting should help a lot.

No. The card is fine; I don't think the 8600GT is running out of spec at all. The CPU temperatures are way high. 1) get a notebook cooler, and/or 2) undervolt your cpu and/or 3) underclock your cpu to halfspeed (big difference in heat), 4) cpu heatsink loose and/or thermal paste needs to be reapplied. In terms of difficulty, it would be 4) harder than 3) > 2) > 1).

At any rate, 5) contact your vendor should be the first thing you do, since at 2 1/2 months it's under warranty.

    Yep, the GPU is fine.

Odd from the temps that both the CPU and mobo are running extra hot - either way call Dell and have them fix the problem. I wouldn't mess around with undervolting & underclocking - those CPU temps are way off the norm.

Why don't you try something easy first, see if you have the latest version of bios, if you do try going to the last version, I guess it can't hurt. I had an overheating problem on a desktop once and new bioss did it for me.

the gpu is fine, although you need to get the cpu checked out. normally, only one fan is installed in a laptop, and it will cool both cpu and gpu, it's VERY weird that one is cool and one is burning. I think you should contact your laptop manufacturer.

    Something is very wrong.
I burned myself when I touched the orange thingy on the CPU :(
    Thanks for your replies.
I don want to undervolt my pc - its way to hot.
And the BIOS is the latest (from their webpage but they look old old old :D)
Called LG and they will search intern for the problem etc and they will call back.
Hope they find some solution =)
I thought it was gpu thanks guys that you saw that it wasnt the problem. 2 months been tring to download new drivers for my gpu lol.
Noob like me on vista :D

As Tarentum says, it might be a miss placed CPU heatsink or thermalpaste/pad, that would be my best guess, either that or clucked up vents, which tho seems strange after 2½ month of use, also that should also affect the GPU temps. Undervolting will make your pc run cooler, as you limits the power running to the CPU, and therefore lowering the temps, as less power means less heat.

Undervolting = reduce volting going into the cpu. But yeah, it's a more advanced issue, and not something you do when the system is obviously malfunctioning. It really points to thermal paste issues, cpu heatsink is foobared, they put it together wrong (is this the first time you've monitored temps? what were they like right out of the box?)

If you're not afraid to take your notebook apart (I have no idea how difficult this would be on your notebook), you might want to take a look inside and see if there are any visible problems on the motherboard - like the heatsink seems loose, there's a big space between the cpu and heatsink, stuff is melted and charred (erk >.>), etc. This should also be an easy thing for a local computer shop to do, by the way - check heatsink + replace thermal paste, if you're nervous about the above and LG's being a hassle. Then again, you're under warranty (right?) and they should be the ones taking responsibility for possibly shoddy manufacturing.

I don't recommend running this notebook with cpu/thermal paste problems, by the way, until it's fixed as it can cause motherboard damage ($$$$).

Might want to post this in the LG forum, get it moved there, and/or check other threads in the LG forum specific to the notebook (common issue?).

edit: Oh wait, you did take the notebook apart and looked at it. Sounds like thermal paste then and unlikely as it's a chip problem as both cores are being affected, but I guess it's possible.

Yea, will be with Taremtum on that not using the notebook until thermal probs are fixed. If you arent that used to taking computers apart, you might want to just go RMA it or take it to the local computer store as said, just to be sure nothing will get damaged on a 2½ month old lappy.

Pictures! I love pictures! ;) Man, that's the strangest heatsink that I've ever seen... it doesn't look particularly effective. Nothing looks really out of place or damaged, but I would go take it to LG or a local shop to have the heatsink (? looks like a copper tube + marshmallow) taken off and thermal paste re-applied. The better CPU heatsinks look like this, by the way:

    http://www.onscreenshop.com/images/mac_cpu_heatsink.jpg

(more surface area = faster heat dissipates)

This is why I love getting pictures of the inside of notebooks before buying them and/or basing my purchases on how stuff looks put together.

I would also check the fan, remove any dust in the fan, and make sure nothing's blocking the fan, as almost all your cooling is going to come from the fan siphoning off heat from your cpu via the giant aluminum marshmallow + copper pipe.

So we found the problem :D
Wel atm Im waiting for some supervisor to call me from LG when they know what the problem is discussing internly.
But probably this laptop havnt been made for gaming and it will not untill it gets heat fixed.

It's clearly not the GPU. I break 80C easily while gaming. Maybe there's something defective about his CPU? Anyone else ever have that CPU?
