Received 1705 with 7900gs. Installed XG_MobileForce_84[1].56_v2.40. and ran detect optimal frequency. It worked and picked a set of number(I forgot the numbers right now scored 6345 in 3dmark05) But right now when I try detect optimal frequency again, Screen would flash after 1 sec and it does not go thru the detection testing like before(scanning bars)

Any clue why this is happening ?? right now when I run it, it will kick back
    Core clock 375
    mem clock 507

Which I know is way low and wrong. (29xx score 3dmark05)
What are you guys frequency setting at ??(if I cant get it to work , I will just use one of yours)

    Thanks in advance

Well at stock settings , I scored 6340 in 3DMark 05. I don't really think it's necessary to OC the 7900 at this point, as it's a very powerful card already. The only thing I would recommend is maybe unistalling the drivers and then reinstalling them. Maybe that might work.

Make sure that your performance settings aren't set to power save - go into the Desktop Properites, Settings Tab, then Advanced button and see what the PowerMizer settings are at. Push the sliders all the way to the right for maximum performance.

Perhaps that is why you are having the problem detecting the optimal frequency as well - changing the clocks on battery/power-save mode can cause a freeze up and you'll sometimes have to restart, or the video card rejects the new clocks entirely because of power restrictions.

Power is set at max with AC adaptor plug in. For some reason when I run 3dmark05 with free trail version. the score is under 3k ?! only way I can get back to the 63xx-65xx score is when I manually change it
    from

    Core clock 375
    mem clock 507

    to

    core clock445
    mem clock 623

After the change then I get the 64xx+ scores back. Seems strange ??

That is really weird . . sounds like either A) the frequencies are being reported wrong, or B) something is wrong with your laptop. I'd call Dell (a pain, but worth it in the long run) and get a replacement.

You might want to try different drivers, that could fix it, perhaps an earlier version. That would have been the first thing I'd do.

my main question is, Are people getting over 6k score using default 375/507 ?
