Hi, I just got my HP Compaq nx8420 and found that the preset core/mem for the X1600 is around 430/370. When I tried to use ATI Tool to overclock it, it seems that my card cannot be detected. Under "Profile", it says "Default(0.00/0.00)" and Core and Memory are both 0 below. When I pressed "settings" --> "Use Device" and choose "PCI-E Device", it shows some info of my card. When I exit, it told me to restart ATI Tool but after restarting, nothing happens and I'm still in the "default" thing. I tried to use Powerstrip but it also seems that I'm not allowed to do anything with the GPU. Is there any way out to this?

    Thanks a lot.

Sounds like your not using the beta realease. You want ati tool 0.25 beta 14. I think there was no support for the mobility cards before that release and so you can't oc it.

Thanks a lot. I was using ATITool 0.24 and that may have caused the problem. However even when I'm using 0.25 Beta 16 now, it shows my core/mem to be 81/71. When I move the slider and press "Set clock", the slider moves back to the original point and that means I can't overclock. Is there anything I could do to help? Thanks a lot again.

what drivers are you using? Omegas allowing OCing to be done, but not the Mobility Cats.

I am using ATI mobility Catalyst 6.7 drivers with my X1600. I am using ATI Tool version .25 beta 14 for best results. Later beta's gave me wacky readings. Beta 14 works like a charm for me. You'll have to experiment to see which version is best for your particular card. This program works well but it is a beta soooo, YMMV.

I'm using Mobility Catalyst 6.8 (I downloaded somewhere in this forum) and ATI Tool version 0.25 beta 16. But I saw a thread saying that Omegas doesn't work on X1000 series cards? Should I download them and give it a try?

Catalyst 6.8's should work fine, just make sure you have a new version of ATI tool.....6.8's worked for me
