So, I've been trying to install the Orange Box on my laptop, and during the installation process I run into a problem. Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Ep. 1, and Portal install/download/update just fine. However, Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2 Ep. 2, seem to stall at 0% in the "update" stage. Any suggestions as to what I should try? Has anyone else run into this problem? Thank you.

Yeah I had this problem before. As far I remember, I solve the problem with a OS restart..

Otherwise just try to exit out of steam (actually log out) and restart and see if it downloads updates then...

Thanks guys. I went with the restart. Didn't help at first, but I found that pausing and then subsequently resuming updating worked.

Make sure you are installing from the CD/DVD itself and not the Orange Box. I made the same mistake. Apparently the cardboard can't be read by the laser.

This is the most common fix. You pause the download for a few seconds and then start it again. That usually gets the download going again.

I think the new Steam Client Beta (which will be released as the next Steam update) tries to address some more of these download pauses that happen to pretty much everyone...then again almost EVERY Steam update has claimed improvement with that issue.
