Ok so I have both a desktop and a laptop So that everyone knows the full story allow me to list the specs of each machine.
Laptop
2.0 ghz Core duo 2
2 gigs DDR2 Ram 667 mhz
160 gig 5400 RPM HD
Windows XP
8600 GT-M 256 MB DDR2
Desktop
7800 GT PCI-E 256 MB
AMD XP 4000 CPU
2 gigs DDR2 500mhz ram (or about)
250 gig Sata HD
Windows XP
Now here is my problem. When i run Hellgate London on both machines on the EXACT same settings on the desktop The water/Monsters Have a special Oil like shine to them you see in most high quality games like Doom 3 or crysis or etc. The laptop however Shows the monsters as Dull without the shine effect and the water isn't moving at all Or showing any ripples basically it just looks like Paint on the floor..
What exactly would cause this? is it a bug with the graphics chipset on the laptop? Something i am doing wrong? For the life of me i am puzzled.

Generic response:
Have you update the drivers? www.laptopvideo2go.com
I'd recommend going into their forums and getting 169.25 or 174.74 for your OS and installing those. Make sure to follow instructions. -
Those are not official drivers and in my experience have caused more problems then they are worth. I do however have the most official up to date driver.
On my old ASUS f1jp those drivers caused BSOD hell =/ -

Maybe your playing in DX10 mode on your laptop and Dx9 on your desktop.
However I would think DX10 would be the "prettier" one. -
DX10 Is only available to Vista both my laptop and Desktop are XP.

Oh, I had a same video cards 8600gt in my laptop and 7800gtx in my desktop and it played DX10 on my laptop (looked much better but played horrible)

Still looking for a solution =/

And actually, those are OFFICIAL NVIDIA DRIVERS (for desktop, because they don't release laptop version of drivers), with a modded text file that allows you to install on laptops... It's not like they are drivers created by random ppl... -
There's a reason H:L is sitting on my local computer store's shelf for $9.99/copy.
I'm just saying... -
Tried the updated XP drivers Lost 500 points in 3DMARK 06 And Lost about 8 FPS in Hellgate nor did it fix my problem. Though at least it didn't BSOD
-
Also just noticed the most up to date 8600 GT-M driver for Xp there is dated 2007-11-12 the latest Official is 2/22/08
-
Update: Found 4/22/08 drivers on laptopvideo2go going to give those a shot too will post results.

Newest driver version 174.93 for XP 32 Bit Fixed the problem and raised 3Dmark06 By about 110 points. Have run 3DMark twice with no problems will post again with stability after a few days of testing.
-
Stability problem #1.
While not UNbearable the new driver has caused stuttering in most games i have tested (FPS 35+ just the game is stuttering). -
Problem #2
Tempuratures have raised 10-20 Degrees. -
The most widely used 174.xx driver here is the 174.74 driver, and most of us can verify that it is very stable.
I'd recommend using that, as more people have verified it's performance and such compared to the driver you are using.
Also, in some cases the temperature increase is due to the increased usage of your GPU. In other words, it is being used more actively and completely= more frames = more heat. -
Will try 174.74 Now and see what the performance is like and if it keeps the shading graphical bug fixed in hellgate.
-
174.74 Fixed Hellgate and stuttering however at the cost of a BIG performance loss. 3DMARK06 went down by around 300 and Hellgate on the same settings Lost an average of 8-12 FPS.

Final solution 175.63 Are working VERY stable NO stuttering MUCH improved FPS.
Problem with Hellgate London =/ Need help Graphical issue
