Hi everyone. I just bought a refurbished msi ge60 laptop, installed steam (for counter-strike global offensive), and realized that the game only works whenever the charger plug is DISCONNECTED. The moment I plug in the wall charger, the game lags and stutters in the main menu, making it impossible to play. What's wrong with the computer/game? How can I fix this?

Possibly something to do with the power settings, although it's odd that it would be on power saving while plugged in and high performance while on battery. Check your nvidia control panel to see the laptop's power settings and adjust if necessary.

What would I adjust to fix it? As in what options would I change?

I haven't had an nvidia card in ages, so I don't remember exactly what settings are in the nvidia control panel. Your laptop has Optimus, which makes the laptop switch between the integrated graphics (Intel HD 4000) and the discrete gpu (660m) depending on the laptop's settings and the applications you run. Right-click on the desktop and select nvidia control panel, then look for power options. There are options that change which gpu the laptop runs on while on battery and plugged in. If it's on power-saving, it runs on HD 4000, while performance or gaming mode runs on the 660m. Normally the settings while plugged are set to high performance, and battery mode is set to power saving. It sounds like yours is switched, so that games run on the integrated graphics while you're plugged in and the 660m while you're on battery.

Again, sorry I can't be more detailed, I've got an amd card so things may be kind of different. Hopefully an nvidia owner can chime in and tell you exactly what to check to see if that is what's causing the problem.

Not a problem. I've been trying to figure out where to navigate but i can't even see any options about power. I just saw options for "power adjustment mode" and the options were 'adaptive' or 'prefer maximum performance.' All this was found under 'manage 3d settings'.

Try setting it to "prefer maximum performance," then click on the programs tab under "manage 3D settings" and make sure counter-strike is set to performance mode. If that doesn't do the trick, I'm not sure what the problem is. It doesn't sound like a hardware problem to me, since the game runs fine while on battery. I know when I had my 650m there were times when I had trouble getting games to run on the dedicated gpu instead of integrated graphics.

I also think it is related to power management. Try right clicking on the battery icon in the tray and adjust power properties. Set the options to High Performance when plugged in. Also try advanced settings, it will let you set the defaults for each performance mode.

Then the other thing is to try what Failwheeldrive has suggested. On my radeon, there was an option in the catalyst control settings. Sorry I dont know much about Nvidia programs!
