I'm new at this kind of stuff so plz dont flame me if i did something very stupidly wrong ok?><. Ok,so my laptop, which is a Asus F8sn has an nvidia 9500m GS graphics card. I wanted to play games with better graphics so i downloaded a driver (forceware 174.82). I then installed it. I heard that ure supposed to uninstall the old driver first??! So did i do anything wrong???
Being the idiot that i am, i saw a newer driver and decided to download it(177.79). I installed it again, but this time at the end of the installation it said that my system was not modified and that if i wanted to do it i had to run the application again, which i did but it gave me the same msg.
So after that i wanted to try and overclock my graphics card with riva tuner.
However, under the customize and under system tweaks, in the Overclocking tab,
when i try to tick enable driver level hardware overclocking it says that reboot is recommended in order to detect the default frequencies and it gives me an option wether to reboot or to detect now. I pressed detect now, but nothing happened at all and i cant see the MHZ thing in the bars and i cant slide the bar thingy. And the enable driver level hardware overclocking isnt ticked at all! So i pressed reboot, but when i did it again. the same thing happened...T_T
I read from a thread that im supposed to tick on the Allow separate 2d/3d clock adjustment but when i tick it, the option to detect now disappears....
OMG i really think i messed up BIG TIME ><.
PLZ HELP THIS COMPUTER NOOB OVERCLOCK HIS GRAPHICS CARD BEFORE DESTROYING HIS WHOLE COMPUTER!!!!(exaggerated but, meh)
Thanks =D
P.S also why is it i have to go to the root folder in order to open riva tuner?? isnt there supposed to be a shortcut or sumthin or did i screw that installation too??
What are the steps i should do in order to PROPERLY OVERCLOCK MY GRAPHICS CARD AND UPDATE MY DRIVER??!
Can someone kindly provide a tutorial because i spent like 5~6 hours figuring all this drivers and graphics card thing and i still did it wrong!....sobs...why must us Newbs be ridiculed on so much T_T.

Please don't bump almost immediately, it's good forum etiquette to wait at least 24 hours before bumping.
The reason the driver didn't install is because you need a modded .inf file (from lv2g) so that your driver will know that it's installing on a laptop which it doesn't automatically do since Nvidia doesn't bother to provide laptop drivers. If after installing the driver with the new .inf, check if you can OC. If you still can't, it's quite possible that the driver doesn't allow OCing. Google around for the version to see if other people can OC or not.
You could always make a shortcut though one should have automatically been made. To make the shortcut, go into the root folder where the .exe is, right click and select "create shortcut", cut this shortcut and put it on your desktop or wherever you want. Then you can run the shortcut and the program will run.
Lastly, I'd strongly advise against OCing your GPU since you seem to already be grasping at just installing a driver. -
Yea ure probably right but i have to learn right? dont worry if i got any questions i can ask my friends who has an extreme passion for computers... -
You do need to learn but be extremely careful, it's best if you have an old desktop that you could OC just to gain knowledge. If you don't, ask a friend to show you how to OC. If that doesn't work, just take care and bump up the clocks really slow, monitor temps and when you start to see artifacting (basically you'll know it when you see it since it doesn't look normal) bump it down by 25-30 MHz to err on the side of caution. In fact, I'll see if I can make a screen video so you can see how I do it (mainly just for how to do it).
Passion and knowledge are two different things my friend. Hey, that's not a bad quote.
EDIT: huh, just made 750. -
I found a stable driver on the internet it's 169.04, yes that is downgrading i suppose but i heard that with this driver i can overclock more safely or sumthin like that. However im still having problems with riva tuner, when i tick enable-driver level hardware overclocking i either have 2 detect now or reboot. I'm supposed to tick another box which says allow separate 2d/3d frequency adjustment but when i do tick that, the detect now option disappears...
Mayhaps, there are some things to do before im supposed to do this???
If so what are the steps??
