Hi.

Regards
John. -
have you updated your drivers?

powersave was the problem!
thank you so much tinderbox!! -

yeah a 9500m should be able to handle to handle cod4 on better than low settings. glad you got it fixed- enjoy.

I'm having problems with this game too. When I'm even on medium settings at 1280.768, it feels like the character is crawling when I try to run. It's rather annoying. I have the latest drivers for my card, and the laptop is not on powersaver. My specs are below:
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 at 2.3 GHz
4 GB RAM
256 MB nVIDIA GeForce 9200M GT
Windows Vista 64 bit
It's odd, because I can run Far Cry 2 at the same resolution above with medium settings and get about 35 FPS, and Left 4 Dead maxed (up to 8X MSAA), and Fallout 3 runs decently on high settings.
Thanksies -

this game is definitely harder on the graphics than cod4. especially with the fire the game can go down to a crawl ;\

9200M GT. That could be a problem.

same thing with my laptop's video card. it handled COD4 fine, but COD5 isn't as smooth. But I ran cod4 on medium 1024x768

I just bought the game, just downloading the 1.1 patch right now. I've played the solo for just about 20 minutes now with fraps running. I notice it's locked at 30 fps it holds steady between 25-30 fps which is very smart and makes it consistently smooth and playable but sometimes it drops to 20 fps when there's a whole bunch happening on screen. I have the Toshiba x305 with the single 9700m gts and I have the graphics all maxed out with 4x aa at 1440x900. I never got to deep to see what the new special effects will do to the framerates like the flamethrower but it seems pretty smooth. It is a little more demanding than cod4 but luckily they didn't up the graphics to much to lock out people that don't have real high end rig. I think to run it properly at max graphical settings you'll need at least the 9700m gts.

I have the same problem with cod5.
I bought it yesterday and tried to play it, but it is unplayable, even on very low settings, i mean really low.
I can play cod4 with high settings(1280*800, all on except AA).
Here is my notebook:
Acer Aspire 5530
Amd Athlon x2 Ql 60 1.9 ghz
4gb Ram
Ati Radeon mobility hd 3650.
And i have the same problem with assassins creed.
Is this normal?
I know, my notebook is not for gaming, but i should be able to play on low settings. -
Okay I made it to the 3rd level where I have the flamethrower and tanks. I have fraps running and it seems to me that the programmers found new techniques to adress frame rates below 24 frames per second and to keep a nice consistent animation throughout the game.
Usually on older games the problem with fps below 24 would be choppiness, the animation would be missing frames and it would seem more like a slide show, and this is why it's crucial to hold at a steady framerate at 30 fps.
It seems the new programming techniques would keep all the animation frames if it drops below 24 fps but it would play in slow motion so as not to skip frames. So the trade of is a slow motion animated picture with all the frames instead of a choppy slide show. It's a very nice technique and it works very well in order to keep consistency as far as "smoothness"is concerned, but with less powerful cards (128 bit) that the op has I think this is the problem.
It may use the Cod4 engine but it's a enhanced and refined engine taking into account the significance of framerates and animation, which could make or break the immersive experience, while at the same time trying to push the graphical envelope and still not require new more powerful hardware then what's already available to the consumer at the moment.
It's a much more optimized and practical (less demanding) game engine than crytek for crysis.
