Im using rivatuner to OC my ddr3 m8600gt to 550/800
Im also monitoring the core/memory clock speeds while playing some games and I noticed that core/memory speeds drops to 180/300 and stays there, while other times it'll remain at 550/800

Anyone know whats going on and if I can fix it?

If it does it during gaming, then it's overheating and throttling back. A thing called powermizer downclocks your card automatically when you aren't doing intensive tasks in order to conserve energy. It's completely normal thing. If you really want to, you can disable powermizer from the Nvidia control panel, but there is no reason to as the card will go to your desired OC speed when you game.

Riva tuner isn't always correct when reporting clocks (even tho it is still good at setting clocks). Download a program called GPU-Z, and take a peak there while you are gaming.

I would say probably because of over heating too, what was the temperature of it? your clocking are even higher than my 8800m lol

i think it is the driver problem.
I am using 167.43 for my 8400m gt and It keeps stable.
However, when I tried to updated to 17x.xx, and ran the 3dmark 06, I see the GPU speed fluctuating.
I believe the newest driver let GPU clock to jump in order to save power.
I know there is 3 different speed, 2d, low 3d, and 3d. I think you are talking about fluctuating on 3d.

yeh, i think the throttling back because of high temperature might make sense, my core temp was around 87 when it happened, ironically it occured during 3dmark06, Im not sure about the driver though, im using 169.09 and I never tried anything else. I want to upgrade to 176.70? but where do you find the forceware for mobile gpu?

I noticed that if my clocks are unstable, my GPU would automaticly downclock itself (to 169/250 or something; can't remb) to prevent further damage. The only way to get it back to normal is by rebooting. If my clocks are stable this doesn't happen.
