Hi guys
I am having this weired problem with my laptop. I have taken some pictures from my gsm's camera so they are super high quality. The screen goes crazy sometime and I see green dots/shade all over the screen. Restarting doesn't usually help. The screen usually goes crazy while playing games. Some time it switched back to normal itself. When I take screen shots they r normal. I tried to read on the internet couldn't find someone with the same problem. But heard people say that usually its something with the RAM on the Video card of the computer RAM. Could someone confirm this? and did someone else have this problem? Is it hardware or software.
By the way I have a Asus G2S with Nvidia 8600GT 256MB DDR3. and I have 4GB of RAM. I never had this problem before just started.
Thanks guys in advance for reading and answering![]()

did u drop or oc any part of the laptop?
-
No The laptop never drop, I don't know what oc is
-
Artifacts I believe or something is messed up with your gpu.
Is it overclocked & have you tried switching drivers? -
I don't think it is overclocked. I never overclocked it and don't think asus did. And yes I have uodated and changed my driver 3 time
to no avail
-
check this link guys, u think this is something similar
http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html -
Overheating? The g series are known to get quite hot, check your GPU temps.
-
Thanks theros123 I checked my GPU temp while it was messed up. It showed in everest ultimate for GPU diode 90°C (194 °F)...... It is too high ?? U think it has to do only with the heat
-
90 deg Celsius / 194 F???
yeah, with that temperature you can fry eggs.
Just to be sure, use HW Monitor, SpeedFan, and nTune to check your GPU temp and other temp. -
90 C isn't dangerous, but it's near to the maximum safe-zone. (Which is 95 C)
But still, if the card isn't OC'd and you have switched drivers .. hm, perhaps the fans are full of dust or the airflow is somehow blocked. -
Was it artifacting before or after the driver update?
-
well I am not sure dph1077. I have updated the driver twice after that using driversweeper also with no improvement. Do u think it might be software/driver related ?? I heard people say that artifacting is usually caused by VRAM. And plus it doesn't start artifacting when I start the game. After sometime. So I am guessing either is heat or the VRAM gets loaded? I don't know what to do
-
Can some one give me some advice plz would really appriciate it
-
No replies
really need some help here guys
......

Hmm, you could try using an older driver. Just like desktops, the newest ones don't always work with all models perfectly.
Does it artifact only if you play an intense game (or other 3d stuff)? Can you monitor the temp when it does artifact? -

I'd say that it most certainly looks like video memory artifacts. It might not show initially but as the memory is laden it heats up they start to fail. Are you using a laptop cooler and operating it with clean and cleared venting? This might help cut down the temps a bit. I know the asus 8600GTs especially with the GDDR3 are really hot. Not to mention that they discontinue the C90's GDDR3 (mine) due to thermal issues.
Are you still under warranty? With a retail build I'd want another GPU just in case. -
Well as I said before the artifacts only appear while gaming usually and stay over when I close the games... and even after restart.
Btw my c: driver was almost fun so I deleted a lot of stuff and defragmented it and now somehow it seems to be better than before. I.e less.
I think it is using harddisk space for RAM. I think there is something wrong with the GPU RAM is there any way to diagonse it ??
Thank a lot guys for ur repliesappreciate it

No no real way to test the VRAM, only by playing games will you put it to the test. Often once the VRAM starts to fail it will continue to fail even after exiting a game. And if its a temp issues a quick reboot will not give them the time to cool off enough to operate correctly.
Like asked before are you using a notebook cooler and or did you clean out your vents?
As for your HDD you will see free space fill up, especially if you're using Vista due to the auto back up operations native in Vista. Run a program like CCleaner to rid yourself of some temp files. Page file space and virtual memory type operations shouldn't give you artifacts, a CTD sure, but not visual issues. -

and looks pretty clear to me and no I am not using any cooler. I wasn't having this problem before and even then I wasn't using any cooler
-
guys, its obvious that this is a defective gpu (from all the recent nvidia thing i think u guys should all know ;p), try to exchange it for a new one, if it idles at 90c then its clearly defective, its also an 8600 which is affected in the nvidia problems
-
Hi first thanks for replyin. Well 90 was while playin game when it started artifacting -
guys no one has anymore ideas ?? The problem still persists
-
-
Yeah, this same thing happened to me...except I didn't get the artifacing problems but the temperatures would go up to 100 C easy (though surprisingly it still ran smoothly? Maybe ntune temps were off?). The problem now, is my warranty has been over for a few months hah. This is what you get for buying a "gaming" laptop, never am I going to buy one again.

Thanks guys for your support really appreciate it
I hope Asus will be willin to help like you guysI will let u guys know what happened.
Fingers crossed
