I got my brand new Asus F3Jc today and I was very happy with it, up until the point where I had just started playing WoW and it suddenly gave me a black screen. (This happened after I increased some graphic options and set the resolution to widescreen. Not sure if that has something to do with it or if it would also have happened had I continued playing at the preset values.) The sound was still there and I think I was still able to move, seeing as how I heard footsteps when pressing the arrow keys. I shut down manually, hoping the problem would go away by itself. But, when rebooting, I couldn't get past the boot screen. I just stayed like that forever. I was able to reboot in safe mode but I had no idea what I could do from there.
So, I used the recovery disk and now my laptop works again. My mom's boyfriend said WoW might have screwed up the software and that I should try playing it again to see if it keeps doing it. So now, I'm installing it again. Has anyone else had this happen? Any advice/explanations?

Perhaps it was a corrupt install for WoW?
I'd recommend you repair it but since the last patch, they disabled it, so reinstalling WoW might be a good idea.
Also, have you updated your video card drivers? -
Hmm, my asus live update did an update on drivers and I thought that was it, but I guess it might not have been. xD I'm downloading the update from the nvidia site now.
Edit: Um. When I ran the update it said it couldn't find any compatible drivers. =/ I'm sure I selected the right download, however. Graphics driver > geforce go 7 series > win XP. And I took the english UK one seeing as how I'm in Belgium..
Edit 2: Argh. Now I removed the nvidia display drivers (like it told me to do in the driver installation hints) and it still doesn't work. Help? -

Just to make sure, did you install the latest patch for WoW before playing?
And definitely use Chaz's GPU driver's update guide that he linked to above. -
When it comes to updating graphics drivers, I've found out that the best way to go is to first uninstall the stock drivers, then after rebooting install the new ones.
Simply trying to update straight over the older drivers got me a BSOD half-way into the actual installation, on both times I've tried it. There is, however, a slight chance that after the BSOD, the updated drivers are installed. This worked for me on my first try but not one the second one.
Also if I remember correctly, I had the latest WoW patch installed and laptopvideo2go`s 92.xx drivers. It worked fine for me. -
Yes, I did have the latest WoW patch installed.
I looked at the laptopvideo2go site, but I found it to be kind of confusing. There were so many options and I wasn't sure which one to download 'cause I didn't want to mess anything up. I tried tweaksrus's drivers, but they didn't work. After rebooting, it had removed the 1024x800 resolution option and all I could select was 1024x768 or 800x600. I probably did something wrong, I'm not all that tech-savvy.
It's fixed now, I had a friend help me over msn. I downloaded the drivers from the Asus site. -
I'm glad to hear you have it all worked out. Enjoy WoW.
