When I hook up my laptop to my HDTV via HDMI cable, the top ad bottom of the screen gets cut off for some reason. In other words, I can see the entire image on my laptop screen, but on the TV, the image is cut on the top and the bottom.

I believe this is cuased because my TV is 16:9 and my laptop is 16:10, so how would I go about changing the resolution on my laptop to fit on the TV? The only resolutions my laptop can enter are 1024x768 and 800x600.

    Any advice?

Go to the resolutions, click on the second monitor box, and then change resolution as you see fit.

you could also try disabling dual monitor mode and just enable your tv.
i read somewhere that vista has issues with dual monitor/hdtv mode in some hw configs

I get that with my HDMI TV connection as well. Check if your TV has an option for '1:1 Pixel Mapping'. Mine doesn't though..
