    Hey guys.

I have a brand new hp dv6500 computer. I did a fresh install of vista and instealled steam and downloaded cs/hl so i could play it. The problem is, in cs and halflife, the moment i initiate the game and move my mouse (i have an optical logitech vx revolution wireless mouse), the cursor immediately points to the "ceiling" and i can't play. Rotating the mouse just makes me spin in circles, i cant get it to "come down" so i can play ( i hope you guys can understand what im saying)

does anyone have any advice as to what can i do to be able to play?

I think I know what you mean. On the rare occasion that this happens, I lift my optical mouse off the pad and put it back on; the tracking device in the mouse usually picks up the movement and "reorients" itself. Try that. Or, you can try using other mice. If that doesn't work, then search the Steam forums for any problems related to yours.

ok i found out...my touchpad doesn't work with cs either. so its either a hardware problem (unlikely) or a problem with cs/steam itself.

what else can i do to fix it?

Have you installed the Logitech SetPoint drivers that came bundled with your mouse?

Your touchpad isn't disabled is it? Try booting the laptop without the VX plugged in and then go into CS:S and see if the touchpad works.

Budding made a good suggestion - make sure you installed those SetPoint drivers and see if they do anything for you.

hrmm i think i'll have to try booting up without the vx plugged in.

in either case it looks liek valve has decided to not support cs 1.6 anymore...maybe its time for an upgrade to hl2 and cs:source....

im going to dl some demo fps tonite too and see if it affects all fps or just cs.
