EDIT: Got it fixed. Just had to re-install TF2.
I just bought, and installed TF2.
I double click on the TF2 icon on my desktop, it loads up steam, then loads up TF2.
The into begins with the guy with the water knob in the back of head head, promoting something I forget the name to.
Then my screen goes white with the hour glass symbol for my cursor in the middle.
Then the TF2 screen keeps minimizing and re-opening on my desktop over and over and over again until I finally hit the Windows button, and then open it up by clicking on it on my start bar.
It opens up, and I select to find a server, and it refreshes....and refreshes, and refreshes.
It never finds a server that I can play on. Nothing ever pops up.
Can someone please help me?

u got to wait awhile for server to refresh, add this 67.18.130.19:27015
-
I tired, and I waited a good 10 minutes and nothing. Also when I try and check my achievements (not like I would have any, just got the game) it says:
"loadout not available could not connect to steam"
Dunno if that has anything to do with it. I have steam running, and it says I am connected, because I can see my profile name, and my games in the list.
I also tried adding those numbers, but you have to give me more information on where to add them to. I added it into the tags things, but you have to remember, I have no idea what I am doing cause this is the first time I have played TF2. -
might be your firewall, since it's the first time you ran it.
disable your firewall, or make it so that your firewall will allow your tf2 client to trasmit and receive stuff -
-
hm.. try restarting steam. or delete the clientregistry.blob in yur steam folder
-
I load it up, then select Find Server.
The thing pops up, and I select "Refresh all" with the first tab "Internet" selected. -
sorry, fraid i cant help you anymore
the same thing happened to me before, but it stopped in 5 mins -
Mmm...see if you can try it out on a friend's or neighbour's internet or something. I've got some problems finding servers on my home network (can't find any local servers, but I can find oversea servers), but it works fine on a free wireless access point.

You could try having steam defragment the TF2 files or verify the integrity of the game cache.
If that doesn't work, try re-installing it. -
try this. after clicking on a server. it'll start to load tf2 up automatically. when it gets to that "knob guy" screen, don't do anything. don't click anything or move yur mouse. just let it load and see if that works. try to close out steam and open it fresh everytime it fails.
-
Ok. I did that "file re-check thing" where it verified all my files.
Nothing.
Left it alone and didn't touch anything when it was loading up, it showed:
"hl2.exe has stopped responding"
Then ofcourse it asked me if I want to close it, or wait for it to respond. I didn't touch a thing.
After a bit, it did it's normal "minimize, re-open, minimize, re-open" etc etc. Don't know how long it took, went to get some food, came back like 8 minutes later and my desktop was showing with the game minimized.
I open it up, and try and find a server, just says "refreshing" in the lower left of the server box. After a few minutes....nothing.
I guess the only thing left is to try and re-install it and see what happens. If that don't work, I don't know what to do. Guess I can use it as a paper weight -
And I also tried opening up Steam, and selecting the "Server" button at the bottom, and searching for TF2, but it does not show up any either.
-
-
And if THAT does not work....then I will completely un-install EVERYTHING, including Half Life 2, Team Fortress, Steam, etc etc.
Then do ANOTHER install and go from there. -
-
Thanks god I got Crysis running smooth now, otherwise my "The Orange Box" disc would magically fly out my windows turning into a Orange Frisbee gently gliding across my lawn and then tragically coming to an end under my foot. -
-
But neither here nor there, I got it working!
Guess a re-install of the game was the trick. Still puzzles me why though, but oh well.
Games pretty fun, has some kid hack and place a sentry behind a wall infront of our base, so that was alot of fun.
Other than that, it's a good game. Going to take some getting used to. Was trying to look for like a regular team deathmatch game, but I had no clue what I was looking for, lol. -
i usually play on the OG servers. they're 16 v16 servers with real nice ping and its always busy. all 3 servers are deathmatch/instant spawn.
74.86.202.76:27016 - this server is where yur team defends/captures check points.
74.86.202.76:27015 - this server is where yur team tries to push the cart to the other teams base.
74.86.202.76:27017 - this server is where u yur team captures the enemy's intel briefcase. -
I was just going around spamming grenades and rockets everywhere, lol. -
H have this problem too atm, but i have 1 question before i reinstall. Here in Australia the download/upload quotas are really bad for broadband, so i really don't want to redownload the 2 or 4gb of tf2. So i have tf2 backed-up already from when i bought it, would it still work fine if i just delete the local files, reboot then restore?
If not i can get a restore file from my friend who has tf2 aswell if that will work.
thanks -

I find that if I don't hit escape when that screen pops up my game minimizes like crazy
-
It might be a few days until i can get his backup files, so for starters i'll just try my our backup to be sure. -
Alright, update time.
Bad news x2 and Good news: the bad is that when i restored my files, it did nothing as we suspected.
Good news: with the new steam update, they now have regions for downloading, so i can now get unmetered game downloads from Steam, so i decided to redownload tf2.
Bad news: Didn't work. I reinstalled steam, then i redownloaded tf2 over a few days, and went to play it, still has the exact same minimising problem where i have to press esc on the Valve splash screen or else i can't play.
The wierdest thing though is that i installed TF2 on my Windows 7 beta partition, with my original backup, and it worked flawlessly! What is up with that...i guess something is wrong with my Vista Home Premium... -
This should fix the minimizing loop. It did for me.
-
Also i just need some reassurance, because of post 36 from that link, its making me worried about trying this solution out
