Hi:
I have an HP Pavillion dv9473cl with these components:
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 3070MB RAM
Hard Drive: 147 GB
Video Card: nNVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS (Supossedly 1700MB with the shared RAM Memory, but itself is only 512MB)
Sound Card: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.071023-1545)
But I tried to play Crysis, Hellgate London, etc. and while I have the textures, models and details on high, turning the shadows to medium or high will automatically slow down the game, is this normal?

Well.... to be honest, that graphic card isn't very good. Try playing at a mix of med/low for Crysis and maybe med for Hellgate. That will depend on your resolution too though. The game slows down as your graphic card isn't able to cough up the performance for optimum/enjoyable/decent fps at those settings.

Crysis has a hard enough time playing on the 8800m at high settings, much less an 8600 GS. I would definitely bring the details and/or resolution down a bit.

Hellgate & Crysis both are demanding and not too well optimized (especially in DX10) the 8600GS is not a gaming card in my opinion atleast not for this generation of games, it would be good for older games.
Your going to have to try 1280x800 low/med settings to get anywhere. -
Do you guys know if I can change it?
-
Yes. By getting a new laptop.
Sorry, unless you can return your computer, I'm afraid you're out of luck. -
Most likely not.

My friend has an 8600M GS in his laptop, and with right drivers (from laptopvideo2go.com) and a slight overclock (with RivaTuner) you can achieve the performance of nVidia 8600M GT (DDR2) which is quite good by todays standard in notebook gpus. So you could play Crysis most of the settings on HIGH, and shaders/shadows on med/low within 1280x800 resolution. Hellgate will run with most of the things turned on and high.
But IF you can, then try selling your old notebook and get a laptop with 8600M GT (DRR2) or GDRR3 as these cards are much more powerful and DDR2 versions are common.
If you've got the cash then you can buy a notebook with 8700M GT or even 8800GTX, but these are most likely 17"~20" notebooks.
Good luck. -
