hey im thinking of buying a new laptop a vostro with maybe a 8600gt. im wondering what woukd be the major differences in game play for games like cd4, crysis and bioshock and Ut3 using a 1.66ghz dual core, 2.0 dual core olr a 2.0 Amd processor?
thxs in advance
-
-
None. GPU is the bottleneck.
-
huh? kinda of a newbie
-
the cpu doesnt matter because the GFX card will give out less FPS than the processor any way.....
-
so u telling me that i can play those games i metioned well with a 1.66ghz intel dual core processor
-
-
ok thxs alot man,
-
Is there any major Advantage in getting a 2.0 dual core processor?
-
If you're buying a new laptop, I would say go with the 2.0ghz+. Granted the video card will be your bottleneck, it never hurts to have an up to date CPU. And these days 2.0ghz is pretty much standard with new laptops, just like 2 gigs of ram has become standard practise.
-
Spec in sig 1.6ghz
COD4 = max out full AA
Crysis = low with good fps
Bioshock = Maxed out
the bottleneck is the gpu or the hard drive depending on what i am doing -
if you want to save as much money as you can, the Core 2 Duo 1.66Ghz will be more than adequate to serve an 8600m GT.
ofcourse, it wouldn't hurt going 1.8 or 2GHz but that's completely up to you. I would stick with Core 2 Duo's instead of AMD's X2 or Turions since the Intel's perform better than their AMD counterparts. -
ok, thxxs alot ppl
-
-
ohhh alrite
-
. I play COD4 with all high except shadows and AA at 1280x800 and I get around 60-80 FPS constantly...
-
If you look at my specs you can see that I'm running the same CPU and GPU mentioned here. I have absolutely no problem running CoD4 or Crysis. CoD4 settings are all high except for shadows and 2X AA and I get well above 50+ fps in outdoor areas. Crysis can run all on high except for shader/shadow quality which is at low and benchmark gives 34 fps for those settings.
All 1280x800 btw.
3dmark06 (1280x1024) score of 4400 as well, although with heavy OC. As you see CPU makes very little difference in GPU intensive games. -
How much overclocking did you use? And at what resolution?
-
For what? 3dmark06?
Res was default 1280x1024 (on external monitor) and OC was 700/1400/550.
I made a post about my score here. -
hmmm intresting
-
Wow! I can only get up to 600/500 stable... And I get around 4000 then... Guess it's Vista's fault cause you got a 400 point increase by switching to XP. But Vista is so pretty
...
-
yhhhh, thxs alot dont think ill worry about the 2.0 intel dual core
-
-
so which games really depend mainly on your cpu? world in conflict? nfs pro street?
-
Idk about pro street. I run that as well, even with AA. Strategy games are perhaps the only place where you'll see any kind of increase if performance. I've heard Supreme Commander can be quite CPU reliant.
-
Yeah... Most games don't really run with the CPU, you can consider getting a 7200 RPM hard drive if you want better loading times. They don't run hotter and everything that relies on the hard drive runs a lot faster. Sorry for hijacking your thread, BoneCrusher...
Oh, and hwaforumtk, do you get the nvlddmkm.sys error after playing games for a while? -
np ill get reply power......lol
-
i think so
-
yeah i have a 1.5 ghz core 2 duo and i play cod 4 just fine.
-
how does the F.E.A.R run?
-
its runs good as well. i play it with most stuff on max with no aa and get great frame rates with the 8600m gt.
-
ohh aite thxs alot,, checked out that laptop you bought, but i vowed never to buy another acer after my experience with this 3610
-
Sounds like you need to try a different driver. -
-
alrite, gladd to hear that
-
anyone what processor will handle world in conflict well?
-
2.0ghz or higher will be fine. You generally don't want to drop down to a lower processor if you want the laptop to last more than 2 years.
-
well for sure i need at least 2 years on it
-
You could easily replace the CPU later on yourself. Especially with a Vostro
. Plus supposedly the new BIOS version added support for future Penryn CPUs.
-
didnt know that cpu could have been changed, thanxs for the tip
-
I heard that its actually extremely hard to change the CPU...
-
CPU's can be very easy to change as long as it matches up with the motherboard and the BIOs supports it. Example I am considering moving up tto the T7600G which is overclockable. However I needed the BIOS update to activate the overclock. Here's a link or two for comparing graphics cards.

yea tru, but suppose it cant match up with the motherboard then your stuck
Procesor for 8600gt to play games like Cd4 and others
