    None. GPU is the bottleneck.

the cpu doesnt matter because the GFX card will give out less FPS than the processor any way.....

Is there any major Advantage in getting a 2.0 dual core processor?

If you're buying a new laptop, I would say go with the 2.0ghz+. Granted the video card will be your bottleneck, it never hurts to have an up to date CPU. And these days 2.0ghz is pretty much standard with new laptops, just like 2 gigs of ram has become standard practise.

    Spec in sig 1.6ghz

COD4 = max out full AA
Crysis = low with good fps
    Bioshock = Maxed out

the bottleneck is the gpu or the hard drive depending on what i am doing

if you want to save as much money as you can, the Core 2 Duo 1.66Ghz will be more than adequate to serve an 8600m GT.

ofcourse, it wouldn't hurt going 1.8 or 2GHz but that's completely up to you. I would stick with Core 2 Duo's instead of AMD's X2 or Turions since the Intel's perform better than their AMD counterparts.

Yeah, I'm thinking he's BSing... Unless he's playing at 800x600 :D . I play COD4 with all high except shadows and AA at 1280x800 and I get around 60-80 FPS constantly...

If you look at my specs you can see that I'm running the same CPU and GPU mentioned here. I have absolutely no problem running CoD4 or Crysis. CoD4 settings are all high except for shadows and 2X AA and I get well above 50+ fps in outdoor areas. Crysis can run all on high except for shader/shadow quality which is at low and benchmark gives 34 fps for those settings.

    All 1280x800 btw.

3dmark06 (1280x1024) score of 4400 as well, although with heavy OC. As you see CPU makes very little difference in GPU intensive games.

    For what? 3dmark06?
Res was default 1280x1024 (on external monitor) and OC was 700/1400/550.

I made a post about my score here.

Wow! I can only get up to 600/500 stable... And I get around 4000 then... Guess it's Vista's fault cause you got a 400 point increase by switching to XP. But Vista is so pretty :p ...

600/500 is the perfect OC though. 700/550 runs too hot and 600/500 provides roughly the best increase/mhz from what I've seen. To be on the safe side though I'm running at 550/450 atm and everything seems to work well.

Idk about pro street. I run that as well, even with AA. Strategy games are perhaps the only place where you'll see any kind of increase if performance. I've heard Supreme Commander can be quite CPU reliant.

Yeah... Most games don't really run with the CPU, you can consider getting a 7200 RPM hard drive if you want better loading times. They don't run hotter and everything that relies on the hard drive runs a lot faster. Sorry for hijacking your thread, BoneCrusher...

Oh, and hwaforumtk, do you get the nvlddmkm.sys error after playing games for a while?

No, I've yet to have an error. Bar the one time I had some sort of weird double everything glitch in Crysis. But a restart fixed that.

Sounds like you need to try a different driver.

2.0ghz or higher will be fine. You generally don't want to drop down to a lower processor if you want the laptop to last more than 2 years.

You could easily replace the CPU later on yourself. Especially with a Vostro :p. Plus supposedly the new BIOS version added support for future Penryn CPUs.
